I had a 1996 Patrol for 16 years, small turbocharged diesel, the vehicle was bullet proof. Bought a new Patrol in 2012 and I hate it. Plastic bumpers that dent when you lean on them, plastic bits that fall off when you look at them, poor fuel economy, very expensive parts. Are all new FWD like this ?

I assume you mean 4WD and not FWD and are talking ZD30 engine soooo... except for the poor fuel economy bit... that would be a resounding Yes

Economy wise, most of the other marques are running newer generation engines (ZD30's are 15 years old now) which are significantly higher in power and torque and much more frugal on fuel but other than that they probably have the same or more placcy bits

hello and welcome to the forum as with most things "Old school" they were built with steel

yep welcome to the forum and the world of plastic, all 4wd's will be similar now unless you buy an older model you will end up with lots of plastic.
