What year? What motor? Did it cut out instantly or cough and splutter then die? Were you coasting/braking/accelerating?

If it just stopped whilst driving being a diesel my first check would be fuel supply.

Fuel lines, pump and fuel filter

Did you fill up just before this happened?

Did the engine light come on when this happened?

Yea the engine light did come on

Easiest way to find out what happened is to see what the fault codes are in the ECU

Could be NATS, would depend on the NATS LED is flashing but more likely an engine or fuel issue I would have thought.

Rodney may have a better idea... I'm sure he'll post up if he spots the thread

It sounds like it's fuel related to me (possible the electronics in the injector pump) have you tried pumping the fuel primer? is it hard?. I'm guessing it will have injector pump codes logged. How long before it stopped has the check engine light been coming on?

When you turn the ignition on does the alternator, low oil, check engine and glow plug warning lights all come on?

When your cranking the engine does the red security light on top of the dash stop flashing?

Try swapping the ECU relay with another relay of the same color. The ECU relay is a brown relay found above the fusebox inside the vehicle.

Check the shut off solenoid to see if it's getting power when the ign is turned on. My TD42 did exactly the same thing & it ended up being a broken wire to the shut off solenoid.

Diesels don't just die without making noise unless it's fuel related or electrical. I doubt it's fuel or you would have had other symptoms. It could be pump but start with the simple things & eliminate them 1st.

I wouldn't touch the injector pump myself. They're very precise. Take it to CD Diesel in Bayswater, just off Collier rd. They've done work for me in the past & the work was good & price was cheaper than A1 or United.
