Hi all
I've got a front diff housing in the garage that I want to laminate, but want to avoid bending it like a banana when welding it. I have an idea on how to avoid this, but this is just an assumption, so can someone explain properly how to avoid bending the diff tubes.
Thanks all
Andy

I have no experience doing something like this. I would imagine small tacks all round but random not making your way from one point all the way round back to where you started. That way heat from the weld when cooling will not be allowed to shrink causing it to bend. Be interested to hear from a welder.

Are you using a brace kit or fabbing something your self? Short welds alow to cool.
I had mine done by a pro at. Biders 4WD and he did not use a kit. It came up a treat.

I've seen the kits and they seem steep for what they are. Wouldn't be hard to fab something myself.

Im only a new welder, very new, but if it was me, i would be doing small little (30mm) stitch welds alternating sides. ie drivers side back, then over to passenger front the back to the drivers and so forth.
As said, someone who knows what they are talking about should shed some light. Worst case youtube will be your firend

You guys are onto the right idea shortish welds say 50mm to 100mm stitches. You need to spread the heat evenly and back step your welds. Back stepping means don't weld all in the same direction. Ie mark all your stitching points starting from left to right of the front of diff start your first weld from the right hand side the weld left. Then move left to the 3rd mark and weld from the right side to the left. Continue process all the way along to the right side of the car then repeat process on the rear of the diff but start in between the first 2 welds on the front of the diff and weld every 3rd mark like the other side.
Hope this makes sense? It does in my mind haha but that's a scary thing to understand. Good luck. Plus don't weld too hot have your weld a little lumpy or convex rather than smooth. But nit too cold that it will crack

As above.
But those kits are very well priced imo. All laser kit and folded.

What'd that end up costing if you don't mind me asking?
