General Grabber too aggressive...

Hello All, just a bit of info/feedback on my new tyres...

Just bought a set of General Grabbers for my GU Patrol & I must say I'm not impressed.... The guy at Tyrepower did tell me they were an aggressive tyre, but I had no idea how aggressive. They are NOISY, LUMPY and NO GOOD on the bitumen. When moving off from stand still, I thought a uni joint was about to let go (similar vibration), sends a shudder through the car. But it turned out to be the 'blocky' tread on the tyres!? Then I got up to 60km/hr and the noise really started whining, 80km/hr and the steering wobble started... What the **** I thought. Had it back at Tyrepower 4 times, 4 re-balances and 2 wheel alignments and still the same issue. Never had this problem with my Cooper tyres, was smooth as (For a big heavy vehicle)
Anyways, I told Tyrepower I was not at all impressed, they basically said "Tough luck, you own them now." At $1800 for the set, I'm more than a little peeved...

You bought MTs (Mud tyres) or ATs ?

They must be very aggressive I just fitted Federal couragia muds and get bugger all noise,
bit squishy under brakes which you'd expect.
Do you have a picture of them, they may tame down, what pressures are you running

So are you saying they are a bad tyre or are you saying you got the wrong tyre for your application?
I know someone who has them and likes them.

How long have you owned them? If it's like a week or so them make a Big Noise at Tyre Power. Did they recommend the tyre or did you ask them? What Cooper are you replacing?

As above ^^^ have you ever had Mud terrains before? If they are unsuitable for your application and the tyre company advised you to fit them then they should have swapped them out for you as unsuitable. Call the National company and demand service

Is this them? The mud terrain looks like a cross between mt mtz and bfg km2

None of the tyres on that link look that aggressive that you would feel the lugs I would have thought?
hard to judge on noise though as that can be unpredictable.

The OP does not mention what General Grabber was fitted, only that they are a aggressive blocky tread, so looking at the pics showing tread pattern, this could be the MTs, the SRLs or the AT2s ?

If its the MTs, then not much to say really, Mud Tyres are just that, designed for mud, not designed to be a "good" road tyre, just good enough on the road to get you to the place where the mud is :wink:

Exactly, plus a tyre can get louder or quieter as it wears as well, so just because they don't make much noise from new, is no guarantee they wont make noise later on.

You will probably just have to wear it (windows up radio on) or sell them and get a new set.
The compound may compress and harden slightly and the leading edge of the blocks wear after the first few thousand km's
And get a little better but that could be wishfull thinking.

You buy an aggressive mud tyre and they are noisy and rough on bitumen? What made you think they wouldn't be?

I bought some racing slick tyres the other day and I must say I'm very disappointed in the way they handle in muddy situations...... :D

they dont look that aggressive to me they look less aggressive the a BFG M/T
Are they a directional tyre, ??
Now if you fitted Boggers or Centipedes I could understand.
Need more info
