Hi everyone! I was wondering if anyone has had this experience or an opinion on this issue :)
I have a GQ with 2" lift. Currently running 31" x 10.5 All Terrains
I am upgrading to mud tyres because most of our driving is off road (weekend warrior, camping trips within Vic) and around warbo, gembrook etc where it's permanently muddy.
I got the lift so we could fit 33s, for an extra inch of clearance.
Found a great deal on Maxxis mt-762 at Jaxfit.
But - the guys at the tyre place reckon 12.5 is too wide and will scrape the body (outside but also in so a panel chop won't help)
I was really surprised to hear this - don't a lot of people run 33s? And 10.5 seems quite rare for 33s so i was assuming no one has a big problem with it.
Anyway they're gonna have a look on Sat and go from there,
But I was wondering if anyone has a problem running 33x12.5, just so I know what to expect on Sat
Thanks :)

Mate, they fit but will more than likely rub during flex, mine do on bother my GQ's, one running 33x12.50x15 the other running 285x75x16...... You might find they rub on your front mud guard bracket on full lock, I've removed my front mudguards

Does that mean it will wear the tyres faster and have less turning circle?

I think he might have meant mudflaps mate...yes you will have to remove the genuine mudflaps...depending on what offset you get ...(mine are -22 or something )..they may stick out from the original flares by about 20 mm if you get -22...mine don't rub on anything with normal use...yet to fully flex it ...using km2 muddies..33..12.5..15....2 inch lift

Oops sorry only saw first line of clunk's post before!
Ah okay, not too worried about mud flaps and can get flares
I was worried because two different tyre places were like ... if it rubs go back to 31s

I run 33x10.5x15's (KM2's). I chose them to reduce the rolling resistance and felt I didn't need the extra width ( when you air down the main aim is to lengthen the footprint of the tyre). The bonus is when I swap over to -22 offset shortly I will not have a problem with either tyre protruding past flare or scrubbing on the guard.

Ah interesting points! I hadn't found a 33x10.5
Might look into km2 again then, I read a bunch of reviews and it came down to Maxxis and BFGs, picked Maxxis on price because while they wear faster, my GQ is not a daily driver
But that was for 12.5, maybe 10.5 is a bit cheaper

Yeah sorry I meant flaps..... That's the pom in me coming out ;):D
I forgot to mention, the rubbing I get during flex offroad is only minor and not something I'm concerned with. Haven't damaged flares or tyres.
On my gq with 285x75x16 which is approx 33x10.5, there's been no need to remove the front flaps as the tyres don't touch at all. Some folk use radius arm spacers to push the front diff forward a touch

I used to 33x12.5x15 on a standard lift patrol until I could afford to get a 2 inch lift and even then they barely rubbed only really on crossing ruts was it a drama, once I lifted it, it was all good barely any rubbing and if its just a play car go for the cheaper tyre IMO as if one gets staked it can be cheaper just to replace it rather than risking a patch if that's possible.

There mate fixed it. Sorry about the stuff up I clearly was not paying attention to what I wrote.

My experience was that nearly all tyre places will try to talk you out of the 10.5's. This is mainly because they have stock of the 12.5's they want to move but I persisted and got a really good price on my KM2's (ended up getting them from Guests in Fairfield).
Being a petrol TB42e I wanted to try and maximise my fuel economy as much as I could so went with the narrower tyre and the KM2's are excellent both off road and on road.

I run 33x12.5 on my 2" lifted GQ. I have -22 offset rims so I do not get any rubbing at all from the tyres. Except with these offset rims the tyres do stick outside the factory wheel arch flares which sucks.

I'm the same as Winnie. 2" lift, 33" x 12.5" tyres and -22 offset rims. My front driver side tyre would touch on the mud flap bracket if at full lock and bouncing a bit. But I was able to bend it out the way slightly and have no trouble now

Thanks heaps for all the info everyone!! Doesn't sound like there should be an issue at all.
Except with fuel economy but it's not our daily driver.
I looked at KM2 in 10.5 width but decided to stick with the MT762s because of price.
Took it into the tyre shop this morning and when they actually looked at the car they agreed there shouldn't be a prob, maybe brush against the mud flap in full turn .. so they're going ahead and putting them on
Can't wait to see it!!! :D
