Ive got a Ford Maverick 91 model and the last week or so when i go to fill the gas tank its been clicking off early, very early like one day its only at $5.50 the next $11.20 then $6.20. Wats going on, someone mentioned to me i might need a new filler, is this the part u actually connect the gas nozzle onto. I want to go away and if i do not on petrol will cost alot more. Help please.

There is a limiting valve on the Filler (Where you connect the Gas to) which is probably faulty or Dirty.
Take it to a LPG Specialist
This valve stops you over filling the Tank

As above but you could try rocking the Patrol whilst trying to fill it

Bobs on the money. My old 350 chev HX Panel van did the same after sitting in the garage for 8 months getting a work over. I was on straight gas though. Twin 400CFM gas research carbies. Finished the car at around 2am, decided to take her around to the servo and fill her up as she was bone dry. Nearly konked out on the way in, went to fill her up and click! Got about 10c worth in. Had to call a towie next..... Tis was the problemo'!

My take on it is the AFL valve is inside the tank and acts like a ball valve limiting how much you can put in normally about 80%
Ive heard stories of ppl bending them to get more gas in , but its a safety thing so leave to the experts

I am a licenced gas fitter in WA and as threedogs says don't mess with the AFL valve. The idea is that as there can be a range of temperature that the tank operates in, there needs to be some space in the tank for expansion of gas. 20% is probably a bit on the generous side, but if you change the valve setting and do have a tank fail, watch the insurance company run away muttering about unauthorised modifications and no coverage. Stupid thing is if I change the valve I will get (in WA) a fine of up to $6000.00 and lose my GF lic. If you did it you would probable get a warning. Go figure.
