View Full Version : Column or Pillar Mount Gauges?

I've bit the bullet and purchased Speedhut Pyro and Boost gauges for my ZD30.
Problem is I can't decide on Pillar Pod or Column Pod for the install. The beauty
of the Speedhut gauges is that they are very shallow in design to allow fitment anywhere.
So has anyone had any bad experiences with either?
I live in Queensland so don't seem to have the issue like in southern states regarding legality of pillar pod.
I'd like to keep windscreen as clean as possible so this is why I'm considering the Column mount. I just haven't
seen any Patrols using them.
If any other suggestions regarding install I'm willing to listen.
Thanks.

I have a 2 gauge Pillar pod on my GUIV and this is where Nissan should have put these two gauges from factory. Perfect location in my opinion.

Heres where my gauge is. No obstruction of gauges at all.
Pic is taken on a angle too. Sitting in the drivers seat I can see both gauges clearly.
So this leaves room to add more gauges later on a pillar pod.

I've got 2 pods in the same spot as mudski's and it blocks nothing, unless your car idols under 1000rpm or you drive above 150kph

You can get pods now for drivers or passenger side now plus not only gauges but switches.
In saying that I find the pillar pod easy to read and I don't have
to look down, my eyes are always looking forward, M2Cw
Autron pillar pod gauges incorporate a dual battery gauge, but $$$$$$
might be better off building your own gauges to suit your budget
PM sent but 4x4 Concepts do a triple gauge if needed as well

Thanks Mudski, I looked at these gauges long and hard before deciding on 2 separate ones. I'm worried that at over 6ft tall and column in high position I may have an obstruction. I see yours is not on actual column so would stay put. The one I'm looking at sits on column itself. That's my worry.

Hi mate. Thanks for that. So yours are in seperate cups behind the steering column, not in a double pod that sits on column? I like the idea of them sitting out of plain sight so long as they don't block any view. I have the steering column set in almost highest position when driving. Gives me something else to think about then.

Thanks threedogs, it's 4x4concepts I'm looking at. Only 2 gauges. Pillar pod looks very deep and bulky to me as my Speedhut gauges are.very thin and seems a waste of space. That's why I'm leaning towards the column pod. But trying to make sure they don't block any view. The gauges themselves have high value alarms that are user selectable so won't need to be looking at them constantly.

Ok I'll go with the pillar pod then.
Next question is do I paint myself out is the colour match good?
