Electrical nuff nuff here, please help me!

My drivers side HID light isn't working, it was intermittent but of late just not working at all.

Recently got a service and was told the problem is within the hid system itself.

Can anyone help me with what tests I can do to isolate the problem?

I have multimeter...lol

Swap the ballasts around (left to right and right to left), check wiring and grounds.

If when swapped (current right ballast on the left) the left light doesnt work, most likely the ballast is cactus.

What brand system is it? (not a big deal if you dont know)

Happened to mine a while back too......I replaced the ballast and all was good.
Just check what connector it is from ballast to globe. On the replacement I bought, the wires used for switching used the reverse connector to my original set and I had to do a bit of splicing and heat shrinking which was a PITA.

Likely Could be just a connector or earth like Hurley says

Drew be Careful when reconnecting the wires between the ballast and bulb, the pulses hid lights create can arc through heat shrink if its not thick enough and will burn fast.

Ok so switched lights, both work.

Moved ballast that I know works over to other side no joy.

So either earth or check wiring from problem side from the connector to the ballast up into the wiring harness controller?

It's getting dark now damn it!

Try the non working bulb on the working side to rule out the bulb also then it's definitely the wiring

Thanks for that mega! I just learned something new.
I only did that with the switch wire to activate the high beam shroud.

I did that mate and it works.

I then switched ballasts but no joy.

So the problem being earth or power from controller down to connector into ballast?

Has to be one of those two problems now?

Yep loose crimp on the relay or dodgy earth

That's a better outcome then knackered ballasts.

Thanks for your help gents!!!

Too dark and I'm getting molested by Mosquitos so ill check it out tomorrow.

Good outcome, thanks blokes!

That would explain the intermittency then.

I've been pretty tempted to pull my HID's out and upgrade the loom for more powerful H4's instead.....less "fussy" setup

As said, just the wiring earths etc. each side should be seperately earthed. Hopefully it's something simple like a dirty ground. Bust out that rivnut gun and wack in some good earths

Perfect earth is to the battery gu patrols have terrible earth points on the body and chassis

Also could be the hid controller they don't like heat so that could be cactus

Yep it's the earth, it was wired to body and worked for years but just hooked it up to battery and all good.

Thanks everyone!
