Help Needed
I have a 3.0lt TD GQ Nissan patrol that has an intermittent problem where it appears to be running out of Fuel
I have changed the Fuel filter and it ran OK for 2 days then started playing up again.
Problem happens usually first thing in the morning then will fix itself after about 20 minuets running
Has anyone experienced this problem or enlighten me on how to fix the problem.

I didn't know the 3.0ltr was in the GQ's. Anyhow. Sounds like fuel might be leaking somewhere and there for letting air in.

Had a Kia diesel truck at work with same symptoms. Changed everything and cleaned everything - no result. Ended up changing the fuel pump. Fixded.
This motor has no lift pump. It is part of the injector pump and that was what had gone wrong. Changing the injector pump can be a bit difficult as you have to time the new one when fitting.

with Mudski on this If its a 3lt it could be perished or split fuel lines somewhere,
check around rear wheel arch

Check for wet spots where any of the fuel lines meet or are clamped onto the fuel tubes. Also any banjo fittings. The copper washers might need replacing. I would hope it only something like this and not a fubar injector pump.

Thanks for all the help
Is there an easy way to check for air leeks as there are no fuel leaks in the lines
Could it be electrical ????

Well the way I see it, if air is leaking in, fuel has to come out. But it only needs to be a tiny amount of air for the engine to run like crap. I'd start with tightening all the hose clamps on the fuel lines. When was the last time you cleaned the MAF too? It could be dirty and maybe on its way out.

Had a Mobile mechanic come out to have a look he gave me a Fault code of P0089 can anyone tell me what this Fault code means as he could not

From OBDcodes.com
P0089 is fuel pressure code; Causes of a P0089 trouble code may include:

Fuel pump output Restricted or pinched fuel lines / clogged fuel filter
Faulty regulator
Faulty fuel pressure sensor or electrical wiring

Looked it up on Just Ask and this one refers to a Nissan Navara.

"The fault code relates to the fuel pressure sensor, it is either detecting low pressure, or is faulty.

It is most likely low pressure, either caused by an injector excessively leaking back through the leak off system or the pump is not pumping hard enough.

Start by getting a leak back test done on the injectors, and also a rail pressure test, if both come back as ok, then it is most likely the sensor that is faulty."

Hope this helps.
