Hi all. Thought there was once a thread like this but couldn't find it.

So anyway, what are some simple mods you have done to your car for under $50.

With cash getting tighter for most people these days, and the mod bug ever present, any ideas for cheap mods are a great way to tide us over.

Throw them out there fellas!

Cheers

Replaced the interior globes with LED globes. Like 20 smackers and pure white clear bright light. No more soft yellow eye hurting lights for me.

I use it every time I get in and out of the Troll. Love it.

The thread title isn't tell everyone the lamest mod you've done. ;) Who even sells a cassette adapter anymore? Why not just use a FM transmitter one?

Hell if she works, she works. Haha

Well for me so far it is a digital temp controller off eBay for the engel fridge. Just set fridge to max and it stays within 1* of set temp.

I think you should be spending a bit more money on a decent stereo. I have not seen one of those adaptors for years.

You do realise Cd fm tuners with auxiliary input are like $50 these days lol.

My $50 addition.
Keyless entry.

It costs more if you need actuators. But it's a good feeling to just press a button to open or lock it.

Next mod, remote start... ;-)

As I found out from experience, if you do this mod, make sure you only buy VB, as its the only brand you will still have some of after 12 months, the rest will be gone in a week and that's just a waste (lol)

Nah, if you want some Beer that really lasts then Southwark is the go.
One carton I bought from a trip to SA in 1978 has probably saved me 5 or 6 thousand dollars easily.

Works awesome at parties, just pop some in the communal fridge/esky and drink whatever else is in there.
At the end of the night just ask if noone else wants the Southwark can you take it home, invariably the answer is "Hell, yes" so its ready for the next party.

I still have an 23 cans left but the paint is a tad ratty on most of them now.

I had 24 up until a few years ago but some dickhead who couldn't tell the difference between beer and reconstituted puree of orangutang scrotum with curdled warthog jism tried to drink one.

Toughest bloke I ever met.
Actually swallowed two mouthfuls of Southwark before he tore his own tongue out with one hand then skulled two N70's worth of battery acid before we could get the Paramedics.

I use one on my Engel to keep the temp more reliable put the thermostat probe in a little plastic bottle of water,
temps will be more consistant.
Got that from a member here who makes wine using the same temp controller

During the big beer strike in 1980, when working from Kulgera homestead, the local policeman walked in the roadhouse with a slab of VIC on his shoulder and swapped it for a slab[carton] of Southwark. I had the slab of VIC hidden for later on. Poor copper

Ignition barrel light fitted and switched to the door opening would be my cheapest favourite mod done to my GU so far. Coming a close second would be a plumbers pipe socket that fits the front hub locks cause its small enough to fit in the door pocket and light and easy to grab when needed.

I did a DIY thread on it a while ago I'll try and find it for you

How did you go about wiring this up mate?

TD has already added a link etc, I just got mine off ebay a well.

I have a small headphone socket next to my engel power socket to the left of the fridge in the back. I used a 90 degree old headphone plug and attached it to the temp probe. The probe is cable tied in the fridge. I can then simply disconnect the probe wire and the fridge power to remove the fridge as needed.

I'll get a pic might make more sense....

I brought an extra set of hinges for my Engel, so I could hinge it opposite to what they come.
My Engel is mounted on a platform behind the driver, it would just be easier hinged that way.
Then cut and sew the transit cover to suit
