Toad,

It depends what areas you are looking for, but in Vic, the Rooftop Maps, are the best, followed by VicMaps.

Yeah chasing the upper Hunter since that's where I am. Once I've got some experience up would love to do some over nighters etc

The Rooftop Map series are expanding their range, and the last time I looked they had new maps in southern NSW, but I am not sure that they go up to the Hunter yet....

You could also try a couple of these trek books ..... I have used the Vic ones in the past, but can't give you any info on the NSW ones

4WD Treks Close to Sydney Perfect Bound Boiling Billing
Make Trax 4WD New South Wales AFN Spiral
New South Wales 4WD Top 50 Atlas and Guide Hema

I've got mine from various places like newsagents, BCF, and online.

Try HEMA Barrington Tops & Wollemi National Parks map, and Dept of Lands GDA Barrington Tops 9133-1N, Moonan Brook 9134-2S, Gloucester Tops 9233-4N, and also CMA (Central Map Authority) Waverly 9134-3-S. These are all 1:25000 scale

Also the map from NPWS Barrington Tops is handy but very limited.

I think the best 4WD tracks are on the opposite corner from you at Chichester. Definitely more scenic up your way though.
