I have a 20lt drum of 15w 40 castrol diesel oil and I'm wondering if I can run this in my gu with a tb45 or will it harm the engine?

I think diesel oil contains detergents and will scrub the engine, I'd give it a miss.

is cleaning the engine bad? I use diesel oil to flush engines and it works great to clean the oil.

Yes, too much cleaning may lead to loss of compression. Have a read here - http://www.carbibles.com/engineoil_bible.html

it will be fine, if your motor was so tired that carbon is all thats holding compression then shes as good as dead anyway, the tb engines generally stay very clean inside as long as they are serviced regularly and last a very long time, as they are a nice simple big engine which isnt putting out enough power to be over stressed

I'm sure it would be fine. A lot of the modern turbo petrols run the same oil as the turbo diesels. Ie- dexos 2, which has the cleaning additives

It's the same reason I don't run valvoline oils. They clean too well and you start having leaks. Each to their own, I don't like the cleaning agents in some oils.

hmm yeah carbon build up probably shouldn't be the only thing keeping your compression in hey I might just try it you can buy a low kay tb45 for a couple of slabs nowdays anyway
