Hey all,

I have an 06 GU wagon with a TD42, performance wise it is stock.

I'm Looking for people's advice on roo system 3inch mandrel bent exhaust and chip upgrade, the claim a 35% performance upgrade with a 10% fuel saving, pro's and cons? Has anyone heard of major mechanical issues with the chip side? Over fueling and melting pistons ect? also is it worth gettin a bigger inter cooler aswell?

Thanks all in advance :)

If you can find a chip for a TD42 I’m sure it will be of major interest to a lot of people. ;)

Haha no deal cause it's all mechanical? What about playing with the fuel pump advance and whatnot?

Nissannewby’s your man. He may be along soon. If not there is a fair amount here already which you might find with the search function.

Yeah I have been trying to go through a lot of it but there seems to be a lot on the 3 litre stuff not so much the 4.2, from what I can find basically people are saying put a good exhaust, boost to about 14 psi and fiddle with the fuel pump

I would be looking at some of the guys that are doing these kits all the time, such as United, Denco, AXT, Motsons, etc.

Cant add a chip to the 4.2, and adding the exhaust without a proper tune ( or further upgrade kit ) will not give you the benefits you are after

A good 3 inch system does wonders for a TD42Ti. As for the chip yes there is one, a unichip, that can be used on a 4.2 however you need to find someone who has experience with installing these as they aren't a simple plug and play they need to be wired in. The gains are certainly worth it in the long run and a unichip is pretty dam reliable.

A bigger intercooler hmmm yes but a more efficient one as well. Id prefer front mount or w2a and again the gains are worth it. Have a look at ABs intercooler install thread and his recent post in the EGT data logging thread.

You can chip the later model TD42Ti models which came intercooled from factory as they have basic ecu with some inputs and output to control internal pump timing and as with most things from the factory this can be made better.

I'm really close to united gubigfish, have you had your car played with there?

They have done a tune on my GQ and I wish I had spoken to them before I bought my turbo kit for my GQ. Lots of people on here have had work done by them depends on what you want and how deep your pockets are mate. They are getting 180kw out of the TD42.

"Hasbeen" put a 3" exhaust and dyno tuned my 06 4.2TDi about 5 years ago before he had the financial interest with the mag and I had no complaints except it just went to bloody fast so got them to wind the fuel back a bit. Happy with service and price was not over the top.
I remember when I went to pick it up there were mainly Toyotas in the car park and I commented in jest that these bloody Toyotas must need a lot of work on them. He had a good laugh.
