Extract from a Survey
The ‘typical’ city driver of a Nissan Patrol GU is a male in his forties or fifties in full-time work with a higher than average income, but
not in the upper reaches of the income scale. City drivers of 4WDs also tend to be
more obese, with two thirds (66 per cent) being overweight or obese compared to 57
per cent of the population overall.
They also wear Moleskin Trousers and RM Williams Boots.

Trace the wires from the switch and see where they go? Maybe the battery isolator override? Hear any relays when it is switched?
I think the 2nd switch is the engine idle up switch used to warm the motor up quicker? Have you pressed that one?
This GU thing is too complicated for your old brain!
TPC
24th September 2014, 05:45 PM
As Winnie said, the switch on the right is a fast idle switch, it is disabled as soon as you accelerate.
The switch under the fuel cap release could be for anything, usually a blank hole there.
Rossco
24th September 2014, 05:49 PM
Yeah I reckon it might be to link batteries. What Winnie said trace the wires should solve it.

Agree with shitbag, it's the override switch and the idle up switch:)
The idle up will disengage as soon as you put it into gear and then stop working when temp is up
Manual override(this is from their website, I'm not that cleva)
Manual override is activated by connecting the override
wire to 12V DC. This bypasses the automatic voltage sensor
allowing the relay to be engaged below the set voltages.

I will most likely go a 4wd systems LoKKa (auto) again. Cheap and reliable

5th November 2014, 03:30 PM
The extra lights are very handy from a safety perspective, and look good too.....
Reverse Light is only in the body, but you only have drivers side light from the factory.
When the time comes, you can purchase the aftermarket ones with LED Lights or normal globes, and with a little bit of wiring, you have Stop/Tail, Reverse and Indicators in the body on both sides.
From what I can remember, Drivers side was plug and play, but you need to add stop and tail from below, and the passenger side requires a wire from the other side for reverse, and the rest from below.
I had a couple of nice wire grommets perfect for the job, and there is a flat spot underneath on the inside panel which looks like it was made for a wiring loom but there is no hole ( lie down and look from the chassis rail towards the inside body panel and it will be obvious. I just drilled the hole, painted the edges and inserted grommet with wiring, then straight across to the bumper lights ( and dont freak out too much about the miniscule factory wiring you will find. I just bared back the insulation where I could, wrapped the new wire around, soldered and taped. All good.

I agree, that is one ugly bar and doubt it would be legal.

May as well rip off the rear mud flaps and the little wheel arch bits under the rear doors as they will all come off eventually with even mild 4wheeling

How many K's did your GU have on the clock?
Will you be doing the Dawes and needle valve installation and blocking the EGR? and a Catch can?
Is it recommened to clean the inlet manifold?

It had 145k and at the moment no plan on dawes or any of the NADS. I've cleaned the MAF and have monitored boost with a scan gauge. If I'm ever allowed to spend more $'s on it ie exhaust I'll get an EGT gauge. Maybe just maybe a catch can.

You can buy cheap endoscope extensions for your camera, why not get one of them and have a look in the intake manifold and around the valves etc and see if there is any bad buildup of egr gunk in there

I'd probably do a catch can , if nothing else ATM and
do the EGT as you said when you do the exhaust.
I removed a perfectly good exhaust , sort of regret doing it.
Hot as over there still ?
Can't beat free stuff IMO lol
