View Full Version : Cost of Electricity

Been thinking that the sudden rise in the cost of electricity is due to the notion that govt. borrowed heavily on infrastructure i.e power stations. and now realizes if people choose solar, and solar becomes more efficient, and people utilize less of the power station. They will struggle to service the loan for the coal powered infrastructure.

can anyone confirm this notion?

i.e loan? cost? duration? expected usage demand over life of loan/s?

was an interesting discussion with beer. whatever the govt is, it gets trashed.

Can't confirm the above but was just having a chat to the old man about electricity about an hour ago and apparently it will double in price in the next 4 years...YAY!!

more than likely the govt borrowed heavily on power station infrastructure and that is because the govt doesn't know how 2 manage our tax dollars, and the cost is going to go up and up and up, can't really live without electricity can we. Even with solar, without the sun u still need electricity or a gas backup. From what i have heard in NSW, they are going2 introduce the new smart meters ( think like the one in vic ) and when that happens, they will do away with the current peak / off-peak system and they will charge a peak rate when the end user demand is at the highest, so at no time will the user know when its going 2 be cheapest 2 run there appliances. Good old electricity companies

As usual when govt lets go of the reigns the prices spiral out of control. But with the GST income they don't care about us little people as thet don't pay real money for their living costs. Who the hell is going to miss $600.00/3 months out of $30 000.00 income per 3 months.

Cruel when you think the total surface area required in solar panels to meet the needs of every existing piece of electrical equipment on the planet is less than half the size of NSW ... sounds like a big area, but when you break it down country by country as per the map below, it doesn't work out to be as huge an amount - could probably be broken down a lot further, but you get my meaning ...

Who gets 30k every 3 months?

If the electricity gets any higher , ill have to resort to running the 6.5KVA gennie
That puppy loves the juice
But not much dearer to run than electricity prices
Another year or two and they will be on par

Just on a blatant rip off here,
Telstra charge $300 connection fee to hook up a landline to their system
Thats not for cables or anything, thats just connection fee
Then,
You need 1 tech head to connect,1 tech head to run the cables,1 tech head to connect external,1 tech head to connect internal !!!!
Every application has to be taught, approved and a special (w*nk w*nk) card givin

Whats next for this crazy world ???
Fart tax ???

Aahhhh forget it! LOL

Julia Gillard's planned carbon tax is deliberately intended to hurt every Australian.
Indeed that is its precise point. To force us to pay much higher prices for electricity - so that otherwise unviable forms of generation such as wind ans solar and gas can "compete" with an then replace our longstanding cheap coal-fired power.

I think he has a good point

why? Have you heard something? I can handle the electricity price increase, but I could really be in trouble if this tax comes in!! LOL

Once you have installed your solar power system (http://www.solarpoweraustralia.com.au/) you will be fixing your costs for that electricity for the next 25 years. Since you own your own electricity generation system when the electricity goes up they are not able to pass that rise in utilities bills on to you. With increasing cost of electricity every year, many people are going for residential solar power a system, which in turn helps in reducing cost substantially

Surely that will all depend on how much energy you're feeding back to the grid, most residential properties are only using a 1.5KW system, so for the average house they will still be using more energy than thy will ever be able to feed back. They will still need to pay for the energy that they use per unit price, no matter what ever that unit price may be and I can't see the Energy companies upping their buy back rates for the energy that you give them.

Just my thoughts

You are 100% correct Clunk(what's your handle). A lot of people are being hijacked into installing eexpensive systems that will never pay for themselves. The only true way to have effecient solar power is to have stand alone system with Large Wattage Panels, Strong deep cycle batteries, inverter than can give you 3500Watts at min. Even then you need gas stove and fridge, and go back to twin tub washing machine, and very few modern home entertainment. You lighting would be all flourescent bulbs or 12V.

Ok you think I speak crap, think about this;
How much did you pay for your solar system?
How much was the installation?
How much interest are you paying on the payments for the installed system?
How many Kw are youfeeding back to the grid?
How much are you paying per Kw?
How many Kw are you using?
So the amount they are paying you is??????

So take your power bill, work out how much you saved by feeding the power grid, and add the systems repayments for the bills period to the power bill. How much did you save this period.

So now you will say that it's a long time investment. But did they tell you that your panels will last at most 10 years? So you will be up for the same amount again with repayments and interest. No trade in and they are recycable but they don,t pay anything for them just like mobile phones.

And they keep promising us more price hikes in electricity costs.

So ?

I couldn't agree with you more Tim, it's a total cash cow for the companies........ from distributors, suppliers, electrical wholesale and installers. I almost got panels until I found out that wasn't allowed to feed my own battery bank and live off my own supply.

reckon fart power is the way to go, god knows there's enough people in charge who are full of hot air lmao
