This is a home made rear bar, wheel carrier and storage box.

I made this bar as I didn't want to pay thousands for a manufactured one, it has served me very well over many kilometres of rough terrain. It was fitted to a 2001 Y61 GU wagon so will fit any Patrol of that shape.

The main bar is made from U channel section (3mm thick, 120mm height) with mounting brackets (5mm thick angle) which use the original chassis mounting positions. The brackets have been extended through the bar and reinforced (12mm thick) to make two recover points. The bar also locates to the rear wheel arches and lower quarter bodywork for stability (brackets supplied). Two stub axle pivots are mounted for the wheel carrier and storage box as are heavy duty latches to keep them both closed.

The Wheel Carrier is made of 65mm box section and uses the original wheel carrier mount (not supplied) taken from the rear door.

The Storage Box frame is also made from 65mm box section and sheet galvanised steel for the box itself. The box has a lockable closure and number plate light with wiring which can be spliced into the lighting loom. The number plate which will need to be relocated onto the box so that it is visible. The storage box was designed to fit a stumpy 20L fuel can and other items.

Both wheel carrier and storage box use wheel bearings to pivot effortlessly on the stub axles.

This is a tough bar that won't cost you thousands, but obviously it won't look as neat as an expensive manufactured one.

The rear bar does not include the tow bar.

Depending on your model you might need to get a set of replacement rear light clusters with indicators as the original bumper houses the indicators, this bar does not. Or fit some indicators into this bar.
