Recently bit the bullet and got a set of exchange injectors. Now this is the first time I've seen the injector nozzles in the flesh. I note that the new ones have a nice pointy nozzle. The ones I took out (apart from #1) all have the nozzles non existent or half height.

Have they worn down, or were the injector nozzles a different style to begin with?

Is this sort of wear normal or not?

I'm hoping the injector change will solve the lumpy idle it had.

Details and pics: It's a GU 2.8

Reference: A reco'd #1 injector

The old #1 injector - still looks OK apart from the buildup

Dawes valve 16psi max
compression test OK

No EGT measurements, (but I have both dump pipe and manifold out, and a probe + gauge in the mail. Need to decide on a manifold or dump pipe mounting.)

Took me a while to diagnose a faulty MAF sensor a while back, which would have seen some high EGTs as a result.

Driving conditions here are best described as hot. At the moment it's 38c. To get anywhere usually means at least an hour of highway 100 - 130km/h.

You sure its a Dawes and not just a Normal boot controller. The Dawes only work on vacuum controlled turbo's. Yours is boost controlled.

No I'm not sure. It sure looks like a dawes valve though.

So when other people pull out their injectors, do they look like mine, or like new?

Asked the turbo specialist today, and they said the wear is what happens after 100-120,000ks without servicing injectors.
