My son asked me how to get the oil out of a lawnmower to service it and put fresh stuff in?
My response.....'I dunno' lol.
Any help on how to service a lawnmower would be appreciated.

Cool, not meaning to be smart, but making sure.
as Growler said, small sump plug at the base of the engine, some require blades removed to access. Please disconnect spark plug so no chance of accidental start.
If hard to get to, turning the mower upside down to drain oil can be easier, remove spark plug(s) and pull cord once correctly back on wheels to ensure no hydraulic lock in cylinder.

You use a suction pump from bunnings... about $20 specially for lawn mowers
I use one all the time but on something else.... he he!!!

If you have to drain through fill holes, always do it with spark plug up.

Meh! Remove the oil filler cap and turn the mower upside down and drain into your oil pan. Takes a whole 2 minutes and no need a remove the disc and blade assembly too.

I plan to change the oil on my lawnmower every 1000km, had it for 10 years now and would be a long way from having done 1000km yet.

Yeah but you need to actually mow your lawn now and then!!!

My friend has a mower small engine workshop and he runs the mowers and then turn them off and tips them up to empty the hot oil out thru the filler / dip stick hole.
Too hard to drain out the bottom with out taking the base plate off. We did my 6HP Kawasaki powered Proscape the other week end.
Just make sure you keep the carby upper most to avoid getting it full of oil.
Cheers

I've had my victa lawnmower for 11 years now and it started running quite rough a couple of months ago while i was mowing the back lawn, so i shook the s**t out of it in frustration and then kicked the back left wheel (as you do)
swore at it several times but it still did not help. So i took it into the local lawnmower repair joint and told them it was playing up and they said when was the last time it had a service, well i pi**ed myself laughing and said what you
Actually service these things but they did'nt see the humor in it and i actually got told off for not changing the oil in 11 years.
So i may schedule it in with my patrol oil changes so i never forget again ;)

But the money you saved in servicing could buy you a current model mower :)

I bought my current mower from the tip for 50 bucks! A guy there fixes and services old thrown out mowers then sells them. New plug, new oil, new blades and a full tank of fuel..... It's already done one season so that's 50 bucks well spent I reckon!
