Having just read the referance document regarding overboost I thought I had better check mine and see what happens.
Country NSW roads aren't the best for trying to keep your accelerator pedal still and so the road surface does make things a little twitchy.
I tried multiple times to feel a twitch to no avail. I accelerated to 110k's, backchanged to 4th let it slow to 26-2700 rpm. I tried accelerating straight through to the rpm range and holding, no twitch. Slowly accelerating the car simply accelerates no matter what I do. I do not have a boost gauge so cannot see what is happening there. I was able to hold the rpm over a minute with slight variations.
In the referance document paragraph 7 it states if you don't feel a twitch keep coasting for a minute, slowly accelerate. If your foot goes all the way to the floor with"no" acceleration you have the issue.
I don't get a twitch but I do have acceleration. Para' 5 says with a twitch, slowly accelerate and if your foor goes all the way to the floor with no acceleration you have experienced the nissan safety feature. Both paragraphs basically say the same thing but one is supposed to be a problem and the other not.
I don't know if I have a problem or not. The car runs great averages 10km/litre.
It is a GU111 9/2002 which is supposed to be a later production than the ones that had the major problems.
Any clarification would be appreciated.

Thanks: Phil.

I was hoping some of you may have done this test. It is on page 12 of the reference document. The fact that I can't get any results, I assume I must be doing it wrong or I have a problem. I would like to know which.

Hey mate - one of the boy genius' will be along to help you out soon. I'm sure others on here have experienced the same thing and will be able to let you know what's happening.

Thanks Big-Rig. It's just that I am setting off on a trip shortly and as usual I leave things too late. Drives great, just want to know the pro's & cons of this test.

Howdy mate, you might not be able to get it to maximum boost or a high enough boost unless the engine is under a bigger load, eg.. up a hill or towing a van ect..
But sounds like everything is running ok if still getting good km's and not blowing smoke, unfortunately hard to be exact without a boost gauge..

I thought i was the only one who didn't know what they were doing haha. I also tried this test but didn't feel the twitch and still had acceleration? I just got delivery of my scangauge tonight so i might try the test again tommorow when i have some boost reference.

Just bought a boost gauge today myself, so hope to have more info tomorrow.

Fitted my gauge today and doing the same test I found that my cruising turbo pressure was around 10-13psi, and on hard push a maximum "blip" around 16 followed by an immediate drop down to 10 or so. On the face of it, it looks as though the pressure is not high enough to activate the fail safe, which is good.
The only way to feel safe is to fit a boost gauge and be able to see for yourself what is actually going on.
