I've tried belting this thing out with no luck. At the moment, I've got some scissor jacks on it trying to pull it out and it won't budge. I've lubed it up and will leave it over night. But surely someone has a great idea that will work...

Thanks all

I would try using an oxy set and heat up the outside box section till it gets a dull glow the with a chain around the tow ball or remove ball and use hole drive away from it either tied to a big tree or a forklift or something while it's still hot. It should expand making it pop out then clean inside and out to get rust out then put it back in covered in grease should be sweet
Don't shock load chain a steady pull should do

I put a sling around it tied off to a tree and drove off worked easy as :)

Make sure you run a pin in it and tether so it does not shoot off .... we had one take off down the street once (yes I know )

Really big hammer. Big sledge hammer. Hit bot sides sideways a few times hard the belt it out. Try this. Few times. Heat it up and hit it again.

I doubt very much that the jacks will work mate.

Might sound funny but if it is rusted/seized in there use coke (the drink) leave it for a couple of min and give it another go.

Yeah you could try a block and tackle around a tree for tension the give it a good hit. I would not do the dive away option though! It could end very badly

Ahh, had this on my last Pursuit Ute.

What you have to do is act real serious like. Stride up to the side mirror and whisper, in your real serious tone, 'sorry buddy, but we've gotta tow a Cruiser' and it should spit the hook straight out in disgust.

have had one of these myself spray the crap out of it put some tension on it heat if you can and lay into it you will need at least a 4lb hammer. its just mud and rust in there make sure you hit side to side and top and bottom.

Thanks all for your replies. I still haven't managed to get it out. I will be removing the whole tow bar because i'm sick of smashing my shins on the tow ball. When the tongue is removed completely, can you see straight through the square hole? Or is there a wall in there or something that will stop me trying to bash it from behind?

Cheers

You should see right through it no backing plate,
I'd be whacking the begeezus out of it like Kevin said left ,right up and down, even in.

Usually a 3/8th bolt to hold the insert tight and stop it from rattling

I'll go grab one, that's the lock bolt just in front of the pin and clip

Usually on the underside of it sometimes right on the corner of the box section.

Heat it, spray the crap out of it from behind and belt it back towards the car with a sledge hammer. I'd be surprised if it didn't budge then

Lent mine to a mate after his was stolen just before a trip across the red centre. When he got back we could not budge the damn thing, we tried everything except coca cola. He just bought me a new one and was still in the vehicle when he sold it. You would think it would have eventually worked loose, but never did.
Hope you have better luck as some of the members have in removing it, flogging it from behind May mushroom the box section and worsen the problem, heat and tension while bashing left, right, up, down often a good soak in some lube or something like coca cola to loosen the rust and dirt may be best

So .... Parksy must have bought your mates truck with your old towbar tongue in it ..... now it is all making sense.

The way I see it, Gavshe obviously owes you more help than a little verbal support on the forum ..:coffeetime:

You got me wrong it's not my fault,,,,,,, my mate owned a cruiser,,,,, the cruiser did not want to give the hitch back cause it was from a Nissan and obviously better quality:smileyvault-cute-bi
Both Reece tow bars though?
