Hey guys
I have issues that require removal of the sump. Basically I have a water leak between the block and the front engine cover (not timing cover)
To get the engine cover out requires removal of the sump. Once the studs are removed the sump will sort of drop down in front, but will not come out.
Looking further, there are two studs that are fitted through the bell housing---S#*t. It appears I need to split the gearbox from the engine to remove the sump-- WTF
Has anyone got further information or suggestions on how this works?
All this for a $10 water seal in the front of the block

Can you post a pic?

I haven't removed a 3L sump, but recently practiced some nasty swear words at a 2.8 one.

Had to borrow some tools from a neighbour. Among the ones used were stubby ratchet spanner, long ring spanners, but specifically 3/4 socket set with extensions and uni joint.

Sorry, no pics as it is under and inside the sump/bell housing. Once it is finally out, I will post the whole sad story. Seems the information we can gather confirms the issue of the sump studs.

No issue with tools-just how to access the studs without splitting the engine from the gearbox. Crazy!!

Gary,

I have never removed the sump off mine, but am under the impression that you have to split the motor and box to get to the two hidden sump bolts ...... sorry, it isnt good new.....
