I went to a car wrecking yard yesterday to buy some cam shafts, crankshafts and flywheels. I just needed any type for a welding project I'm doing. What an effort for the guy to serve me, then he moaned that he'd have to find them, or at least said it would take him about 10 min to dismantle some cams for me. I didn't want them for free and was going to pay etc, but the lazy bastard wouldn't even let me do it. Support local business......yeah sure!!!!

Some people have it too easy at work, and when it time for them to actually do something resembling work, they get cut up and make it a chore.

Its getting like that at the wreckers now, more recently, you have to ring them back to see if they found your parts...... WTF !
The wreckers hotline has become a joke, nobody wants to search for anything, and you should try asking for something if its raining (they have nothing then !)
Then half the time, they want almost as much as the NEW price for parts, and sometimes even "more" than new !

you are probably referring to the same as "you-do-it " Growler ...it would probably have worked for 99 but most of he time we are having to go to specifically a 4x4 wreckers..a 4x4 wreckers let me do it myself once !...but I knew I had eyes on me ...I haven't really come across a 4x4 u-do-it..would be good though

Reminds me of an event yonks ago. There was a local wreckin yard in Brissy that allowed self service. The old man and a mate of his went to the yard to pull the front end off of an old Chev truck I tagged along because I just loved wreckin yards and to give a helpin hand.
We toiled all arvo cussin an swearin until we had it apart and ready to load into the trailer. The yard bloke comes up an says he has changed his mind over the price. I thought this is gonna be good. The old man went all quiet an asked him to repeat what he said to which the yard guy did before you know it the yard guy was flat on his back.
Next thing some other yard blokes come a runnin and I am thinkin shit where gonna get done. The old man's mate , who makes the Rock look a tad small picks up a set of stilsons ready to start swingin. There's four of them an 3 of us well compared to the old man and his mate actually 2 and a half countin me. The old man gets the yard guy by the scruff of the shirt an gives him a what for and we end up marchin out of the yard.
Turns out the yard guy had someone else lined up for the parts and thought it was a great joke to have someone do all the work. When we got back home the old man took me aside an said say nothin to ya mother or we will be in real shit.
I found out later the old man went an paid the yard guy another visit but I never found out the outcome.

Warragul wreckers are great, they have normal cars but specialise in 4WDs. They give you whatever tools you need and you go in there and grab whatever you need by yourself. Prices aren't too bad most of the time

They are all pretty bad now. Not many let you go out and get what you want. I imagine ohs would be an issue. And they are cheap and won't let anything go for free
