Hmm could be many things but I would first remove the air flow meter and give it a clean.

Hi Kerri,

Not good to hear you are stuck.

Did it rev to 3000 rpm on its own or were you driving it at 3000 rpm and then it shutdown?

You need to provide more detail for anyone to have an understanding of what has happened??

mudski-will try it but would that make the engine rev up and cut out and die though?

Kerri,

If you have a manual gearbox, try putting it in gear and rolling it forward or backwards a little to see if rotating the crankshaft in the motor changes anything.

Sounds like injector pump possibly....

Was there any smoke out the back when it played up?

it is auto and can manually crank-and there was no smoke! no sound! 2004 motor was only put in bout 5 mths ago (was from a manual)

It isn't locked up solid by the sounds of it, and it is cranking over but not starting?

If this is the case, and there is no smoke out the back, it is pointing towards the fuel pump as the main culprit

If it isn't cranking, then check that you are getting 12V to the starter motor when cranking.
