Hello all, here is my intro and a bit on my truck, and a HUGE thank you for the wealth of information!
The reason I got a Patrol is most definitely as I am now a Dad! Sadly, the boyhood car, a hotted up VZ Holden ute, had to be sold to make way for the 'family car'. So, thinking how I could keep some manliness in me with a house full of girls, I decided on a Patrol, thinking it will take all of us camping and exploring, as that's our favourite past time.
I got a great deal on a 2004 GU 3 litre wagon, from the wife's father. This is the fun part, as I knew nothing about Patrol's until I started learning from this site. What did I learn?...
My ZD30 is a hand grenade, but having done 290,000 on one engine and still going strong, I'm happy! However, thinking 'don't fix what ain't broke', I've joined up to learn how to drive, maintain and repair/modify the truck, as I've only ever known petrol engines and low vehicles (how good is it being able to almost walk under your car to work on it!). So, a brief run down on my work so far, thanks to you, and my current mods.
2 inch suspension lift
33 inch tyres
Steel bullbar
Driving lights
EGT & Boost Gauges
3 inch full exhaust
Cleaned 'tar' from manifold/throttle body
Glow plugs
Currently on order/to be done:
Upgraded intercooler
Catch can
Dawes & Needle valve
EGT blocking plate
Turbo timer
MAF voltage limiter
Camping mods!
