I bought the tradetools branded one when I was a 1st year apprentice, I still have and use them now, I cant remember what I paid, but I was only earning $6.72 and hour, so they were cheap enough

I've got one of these (https://www.kincrome.com.au/product/K3012/10pce-s~way-gear-spanner-met) Kincrome sets. Was under $100 on special..$96 I think, pretty good value I think

We have some at work I could grab cheap, they are a decent brand but the ring end is not offset at all... I would think that would be annoying sometimes having a flat spanner

G'day Matt,

What is the name of the brand of that tool-set that you bought and after I saw yours, I then went and bought a set?

They are brilliant and I only paid $100.00 for the set reduced from $200.00.

Regards,

Paul

I've got a Stanley set from supersh!t and they go alright. Kind of a pain cause they don't fit in the really hard places where you really want ratchet spanners. They aren't much bigger then my normal spanners either

Another vote for the Kingchrome Set here AB,

I think that they are fairly good quality for the price ... just wait for a tool sale like I do, and go for it

I have 2 sets. The first set I bought were a set of stubbie cheap ratchet spanners. They are without offset so a flat spanner. The ratchet only goes one way so to reverse you simply flip it over and go back the other way.

I had the stubbies for a couple of years and just Stopped using my normal spanners and forgot how good a full length spanner is!

I bought my Gearset set a few years ago now, they are full size 8mm to 19mm and are offset and have a leaver in the head to change direction. I rarely use my stubbies now and Never use a normal spanner unless it's as a second spanner.

I carry my set in a Southern Cross Canvas tool roll and have added a second 10mm ring spanner, a 22mm ring spanner and a 10" shifter. Perfect for all jobs on a Patrol.

I have a set of double ended Bahco ratchet ring spanners which I reckon are great.
Each ring has two sizes on each end giving 4 sizes to each spanner with the set of 4 spanners
giving 16 sizes between 8mm to 27mm. Saves on weight & good quality gear

I got a Stanley set from supercheap also no issue with them so far and only pain around 70$ Not 100% sure about these ones but Stanley offer a lifetime warranty on these kinds of tools.

Yep ratchets are covered also.

Looked em up just now and they look to be on sale http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/online-store/products/Stanley-Ratchet-Spanner-Set-12-Piece-Metric-Geared.aspx?pid=223842#Cross

The Kingchrome set are pretty tough. They have handled me leaning on them with pipe as an extension, and being bashed with hammers.

I have a 15pc Kinchome set, probably my favorite tools! 8mm up to 22mm, given them a hell of a beating, busted one ratchet (doing something I shouldn't of) and it was replaced no questions asked. Wasn't cheap $230ish? when I got them but more than worth it!

Ratchet spanner are awesome I use them every day at work. Be sure to get a half decent set as not sure bout the brand we use but on some of them from the continual use and strain some of them are put under the ratchets have stripped out in quite a few of them. But then we don't have the choice of doing the nut up most of the way and using a normal ring to lock it up.

Usually the better the quality the smaller the ratchet head and tighter/narrower degree of throw. Nothing worse than an a ratchet spanner that won't travel to the next 'stop' in a tightish spot. You'll need to carry a set of standard ring spanners for the tight spots too small for the ratchet head if these are for carrying in the 4B.

I have the Southern Cross Canvas roll. It is perfect. I have given it a hard kms and I will give it to my grand kids I reckon !! I ummed and ahhhhed about buying it at the time cause I was short of cash, it was only $25 and it's awesome!!!

The difference between the SC and the one Nisshead has posted is the SC is one side only, the other side acts as a flap over the tooled when it's rolled for added protection. The pockets are deeper too as they are the length of my spanners so the whole spanner goes in. Ther is a spot to every spanner in my set which is a full set of metric and still a space for the big shifter and a 22mm. I have marked it up with a black texta for each slot and it works awesome!! A few here have seen it when out on the tracks and it's complete.

I'll take a pic of it and post it up. There is a pic of them on their website but they have filled it with a heap of tools and it's not as tidy as just the spanners. Love it! I note though that they have improved the design and added reinforcing to 4 of the larger pouches and hoops for the corners to hang it. I have had mine for 4 years and rate it highly and have not had a need for the improvements above.

Thanks blokes...I went to Bunnings today to get some things for work and had a sneaky look at the Kincrome options.

They had the one way ratchets for $80, Straight arm ones for $100 and the flex head ones for $130.

Not overley keen on a flex head to be honest and a straight arm ones, not sure...I'll pop into a tool shop around town as I would prefer a set with the kink.

I have both straight and angled Kingchromes......and they are both good.

Actually I prefer the straight over the angled head, and I didn't think I would
