Anyone had issues with a GU 3.0 water pump.
Looks like mine is leaking-still pulling parts off to see
Less than 100K
Spit, Spit
UPDATE 21/07/14
Finally got half the car apart--seems like there is a leak between the front engine cover and the block. There appears to be a steel gasket and the leak APPEARS to be there. A nightmare to remedy as about half the engine needs to come off.
Anyone have any ideas??

G'day Doc.,
not me. Done about 170K and all is good, touch wood.Dumb question but you are leaking/losing coolant (whatever colour) not oil or any other fluids?

Not a lot of Long trips, but they usually ar really long.
Further investigation suggests a leak around the front engine housing--steel gasket and no reason why. I will keep folks appraised of the final outcome.

Definitely coolant--green and right viscosity. Also fluid tanks are losing levels.

aside from leaks how would you know if your water pump is due for replacement?

The water pump was not the issue-turns out there was a leak between the engine block and front engine cover (behind the alternator)--really ugly fix.
I replaced the water pump while there was easy access--done 90,000 so not worth the risk. Old one seems fine though.

That is indeed an ugley fix as the engine needs to be removed for that job. The leak is probably between sandwich plate and the block. Good luck

Finally have the Patrol back: issue was a leak in the steel gasket between the front engine cover and the block. It is not possible to remove the cover unless you drop the sump. It is not possible to drop the sump unless you separate the engine from the gearbox (two studs in back of the sump inside the bell housing).
Finally just removed the engine and worked on it on the bench. Too much stuff in the timing gears etc to work in the engine bay.
We did discover serious coking in the inlet manifold, so now I am fitting a Provent. Dual Dawes with electric solenoid will follow.
What a nightmare !!!!
