Howdy folks , read about 10 pages in this section and can't seem to find the answer aim looking for , what size tyres are people using on 17 inch factory alloys ? aim new to patrol , but not 4 wheeling , just came up from a pretty well modded D-40 , where the norm tyre was 265x75x16, thats what everyone put on , on a patrol i don't know what the average punter puts on a 17 inch rim , but i can't be bothered with 2 sets , so they will stay 17 , and yeah i know tyres are pricy

Hey Steve, Standard size is 275/65R17 which is 31 inch and should be a very good all rounder for a vehicle with no lift. There's heaps of manufactures which make this size.
If you decide to go a fraction bigger then 33 inch is a good option, I think they are 285/70R17...good for a 2" lift vehicle

Thanks Niss , i wasn't sure what was the norm , i will be getting a lift at some point , and ill put the cooper ST max on , i had them on the D-40 and got 90 k from them , and found them to be a great all rounder , and extremely quiet for an aggressive tyre

Does anyone know if 285/70R17 will fit the rear wheel carrier ? i remember looking at the dealer ( haven't picked it up yet ) that there was almost zero clearance with the std spare , and the std tire od is 785 mm

If you mean the read door tyre carrier then, yes the 33's will fit no problems.
You need to know that patrol rear door mounts can crack over time especially with bigger tyres, rare but it can happen. You would also expect your fuel economy to go up with bigger tyres but IMO small price to pay :)

Rear wheel carrier may need a spacer to fit the spare both my gu have had spacers for a 33 inch tyre. Not many people like coopers here due to chipping and being poor in wet weather. Bfg at or even better km2 mud tyres get great reviews. It really depends on what type of driving you do.

Never had any issues with the ST Max for chipping - just replaced mine with 285/75/16's after 70,000 with no grip issues & I live in far south Tas so drive wet and ice all winter or chipping issues. Think the old ones used to but not with the new make up.

Stretch has/had 285's 17's Cooper STT mud tyres with no lift and over 100k km's. Has now gone to the Dick Cepek FC II in 285's and needed a spacer on the rear door for spare to fit.

speaking of these spacers , just done a little google hunting , and seems Marks adaptors used to make a spacer with work light and antenna mounts included , does anyone know of anyone else that does them ? as i have a large H/F antenna i would like to mount to the rear , its currently on the front of the D-40 and i don't mind it there , but picks all sorts of electromagnetic crud , being so close to the engine , i would really like to mount it to the rear , but don't want to go the way of the full ARB rear bar path yet

He's not westys accessories any more but worth a shot still here is a quote from him .. Not sure if the link will work though

Thanks Guys for the Recommendation.

Hi pjbim10, i make a few different styles of light mount. 100% bolt on and now in 316 stainless steel.
Check out my Threads HERE (http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/forumdisplay.php?135-Westy-s-Accessories) (<<link) an you can see them in the different threads.
I have only just started the stainless ones, so yet to have any installed pics. But i can do telescopic or fixed for both the square galv and the stainless round, to suit GQ and GU.
I also do many options which are listed in each thread, like color matching, custom heights to suit your needs, and even a heavier wire to handle a bigger light if you see fit.
Anyway, jump over and have a look and if you have any questions feel free to throw us a pm.
Cheers

I have a Y61 2013, just curious if the 285/70R17's have clearance issues on standard suspension setup, is a suspension mod needed

Hi mate,
I needed to add a spacer to fit 285/70R17 KM2 to the rear door.

You will almost certainly have to remove your front mud flaps if you don't have a lift but that's all.

As stated you will need a spacer for your back door. ARB sell a spacer for $89 from memory. Easy bolt on and allow for a larger wider tyre to be bolted to the door.

The door spacers are readily available on eBay too. Here are a few pics off google.

Here is some pics of the rear door cracking that is too common when fitting larger tyres (even standard size can cause this! Go the rear bar for the win!!)

Search "GU spare wheel spacer" on eBay for a good selection including light mounts.

That's strange, I never needed a spacer. I wonder if the rim offset might have something to do with it?

I have -13 offset with 305's on the rear door and no spacer.

I think I had to fit the spacer to allow the rear light bracket to clear. A 285 on the standard Nissan rim should be fine, not sure about the 305 being a little wider?

The 305 on a -13 rim has been adjusted 23mm further out already from the Nissan offset of +10

Thanks MudRunner, I do plan for 50mm HD suspension upgrade down the track and already like the idea of a rear bar, just not sure where it all fits into the budget priorities.

I had 285 on factory rims and had to use a spacer to get the side biters of my mtz from rubbing on the paint of the door so it may depend on the style of tyre also.
