Hi guys,

My daily driver use to be larger cars Statesman’s/Fairlanes odd light truck but only rural properties etc. Since being urbanised my daily vehicle for 4 years is a Toyota Starlet 2dr. I picked up the Maverick a couple of days back in terrible weather and had fun adjusting to the size ;-)

Realistically apart from once a week around the block trips to keep it alive it will only be used for holidays maybe 4 times a year. Does anyone else have tiny daily drivers and limited use of their rigs?
Lets see who has the smallest daily driver and do you find you have learning curve each time you take out the forby?

cheers

I've been getting around in a 1990 corolla since November last year (when I blew up the Patrol).... Moved offices and now can't fit the Patrol in the carpark so did the math, and owning 2 cars is cheaper anyway!
Have to give up the Corolla shortly though, so am now on the hunt for another (cheap) small car.

Don't find the adjustment too great as I still drive the old girl whenever I can on the weekend.

In hindsight though, a few years ago, before I owned the Patrol at all, I owned a Suzuki Swift. Borrowed my brothers 1982 Troopy for a couple of weeks, and when I got back into the swift, i left black marks down my driveway, and nearly spun out the first corner I took -- now THAT was an adjustment!!

I use to have a Daewoo Lanos, picked it up cheap and drive it till it fried the motor.
Surprisingly, heaps of room for a big fella like me.

I am looking for a tiny car now because I don't want the patrol to be the daily... Looking at Pulsars and similar.

Pulsar is on my short list at the moment too. Sadly my mate handed the plates in the other day so now would have to make it roadworthy (to Vic roads standard) before I could drive it rather than take my time over a few weeks.

I’m ‘saving' my Patrol for it’s intended purpose - long distance, long term touring.
Still use it locally when needed, but tend to use my wife’s excellent little Mitsubish Mirage whenever possible to keep costs down.

I always had medium - large cars. Then i bought the girlfriend a Barina subsequently replaced with the Toyota Starlet. For around town its cheap, easy to park etc. downside is you don’t feel as safe. I recommend them as they are for sale for $1000 up and are a non-interference engine so if the timing belt lets go your not going to destroy your engine.

Prices vary between states we don't have a RWC thing in SA. The toyota starlet is non-interference and I recommend them. Seen an pristine one with 98k for $1000 a month after ours. My mates have had festivas, kias etc they were all happy.

My wifes car is an 04 mazda 2 auto . Its a slug but cheap to run and so easy to park . Use it more often than my GU or the work ute. I am not meant to use the work ute for private use otherwise I would use the work ute being a dual cab and the fuel card.

i have a 1999 VW Polo, and i begrudgingly always seem to be driving it at the moment. on the flip side, its super cheap to run, i have done as many as 700 k's to a 43L tank which is amazing!

Hey Winnie, I used to rock around in a Hyundai getz as my last work car, I beat the sh1t out of that little car but it kept going, very underrated. They are cheap as chips to buy too. with the back seats down, you can fit a lot of stuff in the back too.

Funny how the least desirable cars are the ones most difficult to kill......

I get around in a Mazda 2 most of the time. The Patrol comes out on weekends, outings and trips to Westfield car parks.

my misses uses the gq maverick as her mums daily while i drive a gas injected aristo with the twin turb 2j. its a tough life.
I live in the country so if its really windy you get blown every where in a small car, also roos arnt very forgiving so i need some steel between me and them.

My Daily is a dual cab Rodeo ute but willl be getting rid of that soon and take ownership of the Patrol and wil be buying the wife a 05 onwards Pulsar, Laser or mazda 3 something like that. Should save a S$$t load on fuel which can be
Spent on the Patrol :)
