you may have your drain plug in a different position as this was for a 4.2,but the way to do it will be the same

If it's a 4.5, the advice in that thread to remove the bung under #6 exhaust is incorrect. That bung is for oil pressure.
The coolant bung in the block for a 4.5 is lower down and roughly under #5 on the exhaust side.
The 4.5 should also have a rubber plug that can be removed to bleed the air from the heater return line metal pipes roughly in the middle of the firewall.

I normally don't touch the bung in the block, i just remove both radiator hoses and both heater hoses and reverse flush the 3 sections, radiator, motor and heater core

It's pretty easy from underneath.
I never touch hoses. There's a bung on the underside of the radiator as well but be careful it's plastic and easily damaged by an ill-fitting philips screwdriver..

If your just draining fluid from the block and radiator thats not flushing is it?? If you damage that drain on the block it'll be a 2 week ex japan wait from nissan.

and the circle of life goes on.....the block and the radiator are to totally different things.......these thing just confuse people...why argue, back and forth...if you read the link I put up,with the heaters on and running it does all of the above..
forgive me if I'm wrong but it thought that s why if you did it with heaters on as per link it did it all in one shot..

GU's don't have a heater tap, they have a louvre in the heater box that controls the heat so water is always circulating unlike the holdens and fords.
I wasn't arguing btw, just stating the obvious :) and i didn't read your link just added my 2cw coz i read something that contradicted my knowledge and experience

If you drain from the radiator and the block, there's not much left in the system. If you're doing it regularly and using the same good quality product (I have a preference for Nulon long life mixed at 50%) you won't need to flush each time.
If you need to flush the system, simply refill with fresh water and the flushing product of your choice and run it as required. When you're satisifed it's coming out clean, do your final refill with the coolant.
I remove the drain plug from the block each time. That's what it's designed for.
I don't understand your comment about 2 week wait from Japan if you damage the plug. It's a simple 1/4 BSPT bung that can be found anywhere.
In fact, I can even plug it with a -6AN adapter I have because that's where I'll be taking the water cooling for the turbo.
Like this - this is how the AXT turbo kit takes the water cooling feed from that drain location..
