Hi all

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/16X8-GT-ALLOY-MAG-WHEEL-4X4-4WD-6-139-7-NISSAN-PATROL-LANDCRUISER-HILUX-/360786171130?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item54008814fa
Looking at getting new rims for the patrol and the alloys that I've listed look good, but I'm wondering if anyone has any feedback on them? They won't be punished and I don't ever intend to do any hardcore off-roading as the patrol is my daily also.

Can any tyre be fitted to an alloy rim? When a tyre says to only be fitted to a radial rim, what does this mean? To me this means fit it to a round rim??? So some clarification on that will help me.

Thanks all for reading.

Andy,

Any of the popular tyres you would want to use will fit on these alloy rims.

Radial Tyres are the norm for passenger car tyres, and for most highway / all terrain type tyres.... It is only the old split rim type tyres, and the hardcore crawler tyres that are bias ply, but you can use most of these too if you like.

Here is some reading for you .... http://www.off-road.com/trucks-4x4/tech/technical-article-19432.html

I didn't think it was legal to run bias ply on road only radials

I believe you are right Megatexture ... but I have plenty of mates who drive out on Centipedes who say they are legal ( but I wouldn't drive on them ).

I should have said that some of the Bias Ply will fit on the rims, and roll around OK .... and most guys use steel rims with these types of tyres, as they don't want to trash their alloys

Thanks for the useful info. I've learnt something new.

As for the rims, anyone had experience with them?

I also ask if a mod sees this that if they could move this thread to he appropriate section. My bad...

Think you find some writing on a Centipede saying "off road use only"
Is minus 20 the correct off set you want?

Yep sure is. Some quick measurements of my wheels and flares should see it sitting just right.

Another question regarding load rating. Is there a correlation with tyre load rating and rim load rating? The rims I've posted have a load rating of 955kg, but the tyre placard in my gq says not to fit a tyre with anything less than 1120kg. Does this mean the rim needs to have a load rating of 1120kg or higher aswell?

That is how I would see it.

When it refers to a radial rim it maybe referring to what most are these days. It's not a split rim and it's not a bead lock rim.

The rim should have equal to or higher load rating than the tyre.

I believe centipedes are radials they are just a directional tyre

Sorry mate centipedes are bias ply, the way you can tell is there is no R in the sizing eg radial would be 35/11.5R15 and bias is 35/11.5-15LT

Centipedes are. Although it looks like they are unidirectional.

Extreme Trekkers aren't. Which I believe may still have centipede written on the side.

The LT means LIGHT TRUCK but still is a radial, where normal tyres have a 2 ply side wall the LT tyres are 8ply

Does anyone know the load rating of any of the ROH or Sunraiser rims? What about the stock gq alloys? I'm having a dilemma at what rims to chuck on the patrol. Trying to google the load rating stuff gives me so many contradicting things that I don't know what to believe. But it makes sense that it should be equal or higher to what's in the tyre placard.
Anyone know what rim this is? It has nissan stamped on it...

What other numbers are stamped in it? Is there anything stamped on the inside diameter?

It's upside down but this was on the front of it. Can't access the back, will check it tomorrow if I remember.

I've heard factory gu rims are +10 and also 0? So if anyone can identify which one I have just by looking at it, will help a lot!

Edit, and if anyone is interested, king Sunnies have a load rating of 1200kg.

It's only a guess mate but I would say +10.

Don't get allied steels I've broken the welds on two on two occasions thankfully when the welds break they start to deflate through the weld. Couldn't tell you of the load rating.

Edit.. On both occasions they were replaced no questions asked but it was still a safety concern so I sold them.
