G'day all. I drive a GUIV ZD30. I change the oil regularly and use an engine oil flush aswell. However within 500-800 km it's black as again.

Do I have a dirty engine and if so how do I clean it up.

Others are claiming their oil is only slightly burnt at oil change. Buggered if I'm anywhere near that. Any help greatly appreciated.

Our son-in-law is a diesel mechanic he said if the oil is clean you are using the wrong oil as it doesn't have cleaners in it. Even some known brands are not cleaning engines enough. They had 2 trucks using different oil, same engines. Removed rocker cover one was spotless the other had sludge around the low flow areas.
Like you I know people that have clean oil at change time and was concerned. That was when we had a brand new Ute , it was filthy from the 1st change.

its the soot in the oil from the combustion of the fuel

For diesel oil its normal, to get black much faster than for petrol engines.

You are not the one with problems, it's the guys with clean oil that have the problems, I have worked on diesel motors with centrifugal spinner filters and there oil is still black,
and we scraped the carbon or soot out of the spinners.

mate you don't have a problem. Oil in an diesel engine will go black. It's perfectly normal. It means oil it's doing its job.

Thanks guys for your help. My only concern was if it was going black so quickly. All seems fairly normal then. Cheers!

A misled mate of mine who drives a turbo diesel 80 ran that 'cost effective maintainence' sludge cleaner through his 1HDT a few years ago at over 400000km and it stays clean between changes now. Not absolutely spotless but certainly not black carbony like mine does 10 minutes after a change.
