I'm after new shoes for the car I'm getting next week it's a 2005 gu iv with 17 inch factory alloys.

First question as I'll sell the current rims in favour for steel rims, can I squeeze some 15 inch rims or just 16's?

I want a mud tyre thinking 33inch in size what are your thoughts from this list and anyone got any good prices in Brisbane?

Summit mud hog

Federal couragia.

Or just spend the big bucks once and get bfg km2's?

If it was me, i would go for the KM2's in the 255/85R16 size, little taller (33.3') than standard 33's and a bit lighter (good for economy and drivetrain). Also the narrow/tall tyre I think is better offroad, longer contact patch and higher contact pressure with the ground.

PS
Google the sidewall strength of the Federals

I was leaning towards the summit mud hog 285/75/16 for 260 each cheapest km2 in that size I've found are 360 each.

Get a set of cheesecutters with split rims.

Ask them to throw in a set of lycra spandies, and tell them Rossco sent you!! PML.

Seriously, I dunno. lol

Go KM2's, I kept the factory 17" Alloys and paid $360 a corner fitted and balanced (in Vic).
Very happy and it now means my speedo is spot on.

Nissannewby has done almost 100k on his and my son in law did 90k and got another set. That was enough to convince me, and remember my are 17 inch which are naturally dearer than 16.

Yes!! I will show you mine on Wednesday mate they are very close to 100k and still seem to perform well for there condition Steve (04OFF) can back this :).

Try Don Cornell's mate. I have very recently priced them up and a KM2 315/75 r16 was $375 ea.

macca86
26th June 2014, 08:39 PM
Don't think 315/75/16 would fit with a 2 inch lift though. I remember Steve saying the 285/75/16 wear a bit narrow and to go for 305? Is that correct. I suppose with the new car being a 4.2td it will actually last 100000km unlike the poxy zd30

Under 300 a tyre+ about $90 postage. Then get some 16" rims and Bob's your uncle:)

They will mate lots of room in gu guards :). I was just using that as an example. Yeah me and Steve have also discussed the width thing as my worn 285's are about the same width as his new 305's, they seem to get fatter with age lol. But yes the 305's will look nicer. Believe it or not I also priced 305's they were $315 landed in Brisbane.

LachDiggityDog

$200 maybe a little more, I only paid $2200 for my 5 315's on black sunraysia pat rims (not sure what you got) fitted with wheel balance and alignment. All I was trying to do was get you the best deal you could get and after just buying tyres in the last month or so i knew this was the best price around. But it doesn't matter now you still good a good price. My apologies for sounding so rude.

Which location mate? Cos it's not any of my nearest ones. I have been doing some serious hunting for Tyres as I'm about due for some and no one could get close to the prices it got from Don Cornell's. The closest I got was $80 dearer each tyre compared to Cornell's. I am looking at getting 3 or 4 sets so I need to be sure I'm getting the best deal.

Do you know someone who works there?

Macca has still got a good deal either way you look at it so you should at least let that go. Sure you may have got better but as you know everyone can make their own choice.

Capalaba mate I dealt with a bloke named Warren didn't know him just called them for a quote same thing $80 or so dearer then Cornell's so I mentioned his price and they said they can match it and I think they ended up coming in at $340 each. I would assume any of their stores would do the same and if your thinking of getting 3 or 4 sets you may even get them cheaper again.

Yes all KM2's. Different sizes though 1 set of 315/75/16, 1 set of 33/12.5/15, 1 set of 31/10.5/15 and possibly a set of 285/70/17

Well if you want another set for a bargaining tool I'll be needing some soon so if they will knock off more for 5 sets instead of 4 let me know and I'll get a set with you I think I'd be getting some 285 70 17s(would have to confirm size).
If not not a problem as they aren't needed just yet but soon enough.

When i called Jax at capalaba before i got mine, the bloke told me his price, i told him what i could get them for, and he went off. Making all kinds of claims about Don Cornells. He was saying they are fake, and dont have the same ply or load rating. I called Don Cornells and told him what the bloke at jax said, and he set it all straight for me. They arent fake, they are exactly the same, he also said that jax probably buys them from Cornells for the same price i could get them, thats why the bloke at jax was so pissed. So far the jax store I have been dealing has been very good. I mentioned Cornell's and he pointed out what I already knew about them being parallel imported by Cornell's. I have received 2 phone calls so far from the jax rep and he has been very good.

If Jax can get their prices down just a little more then I will probably use them due to ease of logistics. I will reiterate that the costings will be pretty much the same by the end of it.

Small update.

I am still yet to get a final price from the Jax store I have been dealing with. However the service from their rep has been quite good. He has been very positive and does not want to lose my business obviously because of the size of the order, he has had trouble getting a response from the Michelin rep hence I don't have one either.

OK Final Update.

The jax rep has been very helpful. However he was unable to move on his first quoted prices. For a couple of sizes they are close enough that we are going to get them through jax for ease of logistics. The sizes that troy was after were well out compared to Cornells.

Prices Below.

315/75/R16 Jax- $400 Cornells- $375
33/12.5/R15 Jax- $360 Cornells- $310
31/10.5/R15 Jax- $260 Cornells- $210

All Jax prices are fitted and balanced and all Cornells are delivered to a depot in rocklea. LachDiggity you must have got them at a good time as everyone I have spoken cannot match the prices from the outlets down south. Macca you got a sweet deal.

31/10.5/R15 Jax- $260 Cornells- $210 huntsman - $280

For my size I wanted 305/70/16 huntsman were $305 a tyre plus huntsman delivered to my house not some depot
So it turns out I did get a good deal then
Also the tyres were fitted and balanced well and on 40psi when I put them on

Yeah that's a shame they wouldn't do them for the same price, but with how relaxed they where about it I assume they would have done the same for everyone. I think Cornells may have up their price $25 a piece when I was looking 3 or 4 months ago they where only quoting $350, may be due to the KM2's increasing popularity.
