As stated was just down the local 4x4 shop and they have this week alone 5 blown up GUs.
some are being rebuilt one has sold his motor to another guy as he's doing a LS2 conversion
Believe it or not most were CRD not Di as I thought. Seems they all lost oil pressure.
I think a member here had a loose oil pump on his CRD and made quite a mess of his engine but he's back on the road .

Must've been "Friday Cars". How much work is involved to get to the oil pump on a CRD? If I owned one, I would reckon it would be worth checking to make sure the pump fasteners are correctly torqued.

I think it is an engine out job, as you have to remove the sump, or at the very least, unbolt the gearbox, as there are hidden bolts in there......

If I get down there tomorrow I'll ask the question, and approx. cost involved $$$

this is him. He says its a engine out job. Worth it imo tho. A grand on maintenance is much better then 10 on a rebuild

Hell would freeze over well before Nissan would admit there is an issue and or do a recall. Its forums such as this where you find out whats going on about the place . Thanks John for keeping us in the loop. Feel sorry for the owners that have had this misfortune.

5 GUs all kitted out is a lot of dollars sitting in a workshop.
From what a gather most lost oil pressure, but as I said Ill take a bit of paper and get any
common theme I can find. If anyone is after a 4.2 grey or black top in Melb drop me a PM for info.
I'll head down there shortly

Ok best to my knowledge one 3ltr is getting a Duramax conversion and sold his motor to another who blew his up.
I was told the wrong info seems most are 2002-2003 models varying mileage, one only has 47K genuine Ks on it.
And is on its second motor as replacement Crate motor failed as well. One had low oil pressure the rest had cracked heads.
As for the cost of removing the oil pump and inspecting and re tightening it the price I was given was $2500, taking into account
gearbox/tranny will need to come out as well as sump then re-gassing aircon etc.,Not a small job. Question is it worth $2500 or even $1500
for peace of mind or is it worth the gamble on the CRD.
Another one is coming in next week, what I want to know is when they fail is it just driving
around the Burbs or sitting on 100KPH hour after hour

All good TD. A lot of people always confuse the Di and CRD.

I reckon we should all sell our patrols just in case ;)

Yep just sold my patrol. Injector pump gone. Say good night. Sold it for 3000. I figured I'd get 6-8000 for a 2000 dx di patrol in good condition minus 3500 for new injector pump so I'm happy with the price I got. But I'm leaving the zd30 club and joining the td42 club

I'd go an l98 with 6 speed auto rather than ls2 basically the same engine but the l98 gets a little more low down torque. Jennis ve ss wagon runs that motor gearbox set up it all works nicely.
I should be picking my gu st-l 05 model td42 on Wednesday.

I was in your car going to silver(rick) place at the meet up 2 years ago. It was very nice I just can get it out of my head of problems and being highly strung. I was a fan but thrown too much good coin after bad

This highly strung thing is something I can't quite get my head around, look at all the trucks in the 4.5 ton + range, they all have 3.0 litre turbo diesels. You don't hear about many problems and they go quite well (from firsthand experience) with excellent fuel consumption. Perhaps the ZD30 has some problems but "not having the cubic capacity for a big 4x4" or "being highly strung" is not one of them in my opinion.

Neither of those :). 6.6L duramax with 6 speed Allison and 5 tunes available on the fly. More power, torque and better fuel economy than those. (Well about on par with the td42).

Got a call today from a mate who's brother brought a GUII about three months ago. Supposedly with a rebuilt motor. He was on his way down to Uluru and the motor went bang. His towing quote back to Melbourne is 4500$. Just reinforces my thoughts that I need to get off my rrrs and build this TD42 for mine...
