Hi All, new member here,

I have joined up on behalf of my brother who lives in Newcastle. He doesn't own or really know how to use a computer. Recently he purchased a 2008 3lt GU Patrol to which he has fitted a 3in high flow exhaust.

He has also purchased a Dawes and Needle valve but as neither he or I know anything about these or how to install and adjust them, we are hoping that someone can advise if they know of anyone in Newcastle that is experienced with these.

He has rung every 4wd mechanic and 4wd stores in Newcastle with no luck. We don't want to attempt it even with the instructions that have been posted on the internet.

If you know someone who is an expert in these we would be great full to hear from you.

Thank you.

Hi Rusty,

Thanks for your reply and I have completed the introduction.

Its difficult for my brother to get to Sydney as he works a permanent night shift and is only off Saturday and Sunday nights. I would have thought there would be someone that has the experience in Newcastle but finding them is not proving easy. I have always worked on my own vehicles and have read and studied all the information that I can find on the net in regards to fitting and adjusting a Dawes Valve but without having all the correct gauges I would only be guessing and causing more harm than good does not interest me, that's why I was hoping that a member here would be able to help.

Cheers,
Herc

yeah to be honest mate NSW has a pretty poor representation. there less than 5 active sydney members and TBH, i havent seen a single person from newcastle on here.

im only assuming here but your brother cant have tried too hard to find someone. only reason i say that is my mechanic, who is an LPG specialist and doesnt do much work with diesel cars put it on no problems. have you sourced the parts already? valves, catch can and gauges? my only suggestion would be instead of ringing around would be to go in person with the whole kit and get them to install it properly.

If you havent already got the kit, Mark from here(Mudski) sells whole kits (not including the gauge). Here is a link to his auto store:

http://stores.ebay.com.au/MCB-Auto-Parts-AU?_rdc=1&clk_rvr_id=656943170563&clk_rvr_id=656943170563&clk_rvr_id=656943170563&clk_rvr_id=656943170563&clk_rvr_id=656943170563&clk_rvr_id=656943170563&clk_rvr_id=656943170563&clk_rvr_id=656943170563&clk_rvr_id=656943170563

or you could just PM him and he will provide the relevant links to the parts you need. also, on his recomendation he directed me to Mcnally Electronics, www.mcnallyelectronics.com as they do a real neat dual EGT and Boost(PSI) Gauge.

Cheers

Rusty

Thanks Nic. Yeah you need a boost gauge installed first. Not hard to fit up, just time consuming really. The hardest part is picking up boost. You can either get an adaptor that fits in between the map sensor on the intercooler, or drill a hole in the ic pipe, weld a threaded bung in and get it from there.
Once the gauge is in give me a shout as I have spent some time writing up a step by step guide to installing the dawes and needle valves with a picture and also a tune up guide.
It can be quite daunting at first but its really quite straight forward.
Cheers.
Mark.

Btw. My kits are in stock as of today, I just haven't had the tine to fix up the listings.

Sure mate. I will warn you. Once you get it right. Don't eff with it unless you are prepared to start again. As if you have it all right and then decide to up the boost pressures a little, it will also put the needle valve out of whack. But its not too difficult to get it good again.
Email on the way.....

Would you think I would benefit or recommend IYHO with a Nads kit for a 2011 model GU8

Mick, im almost positive Nisshead has a similar/newer year model to you and he has fitted the NADS kit. and im sure i have seen other people on here with the newer trolls fitting NADS. i cant see why it wouldnt hurt to fit it just as an extra precaution?

Mick the CRD's don't need dawes and needle valve. The EGR block I would do to any diesel... But having these valves fitted will stop the crappy boost fluctuations therefor giving you a nice linear boost curve instead of it looking like the Grand Canyon. This will also give you slightly more power, as the boost is delivered proper and smooth.

Cheers.
Mark.

200% agree with Mark on this.
After getting it fitted the car changed completely. Smoother spool up, lower egts, and over all better and more responsive to drive. And once set up and sweet spot is found. Do not touch it! Set and forget.
