View Full Version : LG tv no spare parts

Yep, another quality AB patrol related post!

I'm at loose ends whether to spend time fighting this or just let it go...

Long story short...

Our family tv LG plasma has died, main circuit board.

This is 5 years old, conveniently 4 months after warranty!

From what I understand tv manufactures should or do keep spare parts for a minimum of 10-15 years???

Anyways, just paid money for a tv bloke to have a look and he said that LG do not make spare parts for this model and have ran out of spare parts so now I have a 40" piece of rubbish.

I'm pretty much screwed and have no tv...great!
I spent 2k on this thing 5 years ago when I bought the house and it came with surround sound speakers and DVD and a special link sync program specifically designed for the whole set up.

Anyways, am I wasting my time contacting these guys about my frustration.

Tv man says for lg not to have any spare parts left must mean this model had a lot of problems and they have used up all if their stock of spare parts.

Re reading my post this is more of a rant thread...lol

Anyways, I'm seriously pissed about this!!!

I know mate I know...my funds are diminished that's all and I really need to bunker down....lol

I'm just pissed because I spent good money on a quality supplier to have a solid family tv and 5 years....not happy!!!

Our old bloody rank arena family tv from my olds house lasted 20 bloody years!!!

I know I know plasma technology bla bla but bloody hell 5 years????

I got just over 1 year before the main board fried so got it fixed under warranty and it lasted 2 more years.... crap.

My latest tv is a samsung 50inch I got new 2nd hand 3 years ago and cost me $1000 still wrapped in plastic

What model is your tv? Should google it might be able to get a board cheap online, then you can fix it yourself and offer two fingers and a jog on to the TV repair guy.

Yeah I agree with Irish. Ask the bloke what is broken and ask if he or even you can source the part and have him install it, you might be able to find it at a technology wrecker, believe me they exist

This probably won't be a good time to mention the time I got two flat screen TVs for the price of one by accident because the morons forgot that I picked the tv up on the purchase day and ended up delivering the exact tv a week later.
Keeping quiet about that one!!

If you want a cheap TV go to you local tip shop - people are getting rid of the old analogue units - nothing wrong with them. Just run a external digital receiver.

I do mate but I struggled with repayments after black Saturday as we now have a stupid extra fire levy price based on my area which killed me!

I upped my excess to 2k

Say you accidentally broke it in the car on your way back home from your mates house after you let him borrow it for a couple of months and claim it on the car insurance lol

hey even though it is out of warranty by 4 months doesn't mean to much at all..do a bit of research and the fact that a product is out of warranty sometimes doesn't matter..For instance if you pay a high price for something and expect that the quality should be better than what you have is still reason for a product to be fixed or replaced..get onto consumer affairs mate and ask them, seen this on a cuurent affair and today tonight quite a bit..hoper it helps.

AB just copied this from the Australian consumer and protection website here's just a snippet I meant..maybe get your wife to give them a call, 'No refund' signs and expired warranties.............

Your rights under the consumer guarantees do not have a specific expiry date and can apply even after any warranties you’ve got from a business have expired.

I log off for one hour and rusty cuts my lunch, hahahahaha. Good find that man.

See what the part will cost Andy, if it's cheap enough it might be worth fixing. if it's over a couple of hundred or you aren't sure it'll work, maybe pass on it.

This is just a general thing and might just be because I've been a service tech for about 15yrs now but I can't believe how much stuff is just tossed out when it breaks. Nobody fixes stuff any more. It's a shame really.

That's just insurance making YOU pay for others losses so they can still reap their huge profits, same happened here in bris, my insurance literally doubled after the floods, my house didn't or can not ever flood from any river, my house/land has not doubled in value, and my contents have surely depreciated, so what am I paying a extra $1000 a year for ?...........................So they can post General Insurance profit after tax of over $800 million dollars ! ( that's not a typo, eight hundred million dollars )

That would mean being dishonest though...

Understand where your coming from and respect that, its awesome if that's 100% your genuine character and you live by it always and stay true to yourself,......... I was Just sayin what others were thinking , and hey, accidents "do" happen all the time !

Insurance company's are not always so honourable themselves , and OMG, $800,000,000 profit !, pretty hard to feel sorry for em :D

Yes mate I'm a big believer in trying to fix things if you can, not a tree hugging hippy but we are just the biggest wasteful bunch of idiots and consume way too much!!!

LOL, what a joke that technology is! honestly, all that UHD crap is just clever marketing. the only time you will truly appreciate UHD and that is when watching bluray or DVD, im pretty sure Free to air transmits at around 480, possibly 720... even if a Plasma TV chews through more power it might only equate to MAXIMUM $50 extra per electricity pill. how many bills do you have to go through before you can justify that spending that extra $2500 (or however much they are) and say buying the new TV is actually SAVING you money.... my guess would be never.

for me when it comes to technology i go by a few different rules. if it is computers, you buy the best at the time(but not nessescarily the most expensive), and you will get the longest life out of a computer, i have never spent over $1200 on a computer and would never spend over $800 on a laptop.

when it comes to comsumables like TV's and sound systems that cannot be upgraded, i always buy the cheapest. think about it like this, My Big TV is a 50" Soniq Plasma (JB HiFi Brand) it comes with a 2 year warranty. it cost me $700 Dollars, i got an extended warranty(another 2 years) for an extra $100 (i think). if the TV breaks in 4 years, then HAPPY DAYS! its under warranty and i go and and get a fresh TV or TV gets repaired, either way, it cost me nothing. it it breaks after 4 years i will go out and shop around and buy the cheapest one at the time, so possibly another $700-$800. even still im gonna be infront of someone who bought a more expensive brand assuming it would be better. most of them are made in the same factory

anyway thats my 2cw, just a different perspective and another way to think about it when buying technology

Our washing machine went legs up and it was the motor bushes.....LG don't supply bushes for this model, it's a complete motor swap. On ebay and another set of bushes from another manufacturer that uses the same motor.....all fixed for $40.

See if the board is used on other models/brands???

Might be a Samsung panel mate, but there are different grades of panel, and the biggest problem is the control board/tuner. It's like having a schmicko gu and putting a reliant robin engine in it. I have a Kogan 26" tv in the bedroom, has a Samsung panel and is supposed to be full hd, but due to the sh1%ty control board, it doesn't even do 720, won't recognise hdmi signal from most devices either.

If you need a chop out with fixing the telly I'm happy to lend a hand Andy.
