Been meaning to ask someone about my ARB side step/side protection bars... the step part of them are bowed from using them as sliders and to pivot on and want to take them off and clean straighten and paint...

Now how would I go about getting them straightened ??????

@ BA use an up right hydraulic press will need to blokes press past centre then relax.
Should be easy enough or make a jig using your hydraulic juack

@ SD Nice laminating work BTW

Lol cheers,

Depending on how its bent it can be shitload easier to notch the steal then weld it back up.

Side steps I would heat up clamping them down to a nice metal H or I beam or something straight and a lot stronger than the pipe.

Depending how far you have to bend to get straight cause you'll have to over bend to allow it to flex back, just use small chock of timber in the center or where ever it's needed.

Chuck them out, my tjm ones were the same so I've cut off the brush bars and got some proper sliders to weld them on.

I'm yet to bolt them up as I need to do some pannel work after they were bent up.
I bought the sliders off lhurley and they were bolsys sliders and double the thickness and weight of my tjm ones! I'm going to have to do it soon so ill post pics when I do it.

As megatexture said, bin them. Having compared his to my (now his) sliders, there was a massive difference. Whilst trying to get megas side steps off, we could actually twist and bend them with our hands. But the sliders, i dont think ive ever seen them flex or move in the year they were on my car. And i have dropped it hard. I mean HARD. Not even small dint in the slider.

IMO $500 on sliders is a lot less then sill damage and any other damage that can come from a decent underside knock.

Was coming home form recent trip on a left hand bend two kids and wife in car, camper trailer on back Hume Hwy doing 110 when car began shaking by the time i touched the brake did a sharp left off the road up an embankment over a few white poles and came to rest gently against the base of a very large tree.
Has anyone ever seen this before ?
