Hey All,

Does anyone on here travel with kids?
We're going away for a week at Easter, and taking my nephew (will be 8 by then).

He has a Nintendo DS, and I have mine, with lots of games, so those will keep us entertained during the 8 hour drive. We also have a portable DVD player for the car, so that will be handy.
We're taking his bike and scooter . . . . .
But i wondered of anyone else has idea of what stuff keeps kids entertained?
We'll prob do some fishing, so i reckon he'll be interested for a while, but if we dont catch much, he'll prob get bored.

Any suggestions?

Install seat belts on roof rack, place kids in harnesses up there, wind up your windows and turn stereo up with fave tune playing and drive on.

Hey buddy, not to sure on that one.
Couple of yabbie nets maybe, Depends on where your going mate, bush walks, a compass could keep him ammused, teach him how to use it and set out a course for him, like a treasure hunt with a little token prize at the finnish point, bag of lollies or something simple. cheap little pair of binoculas (around $20), Like i said Trace not real sure on that one, we found it hard enough to keep an 18yr old ammused,
so we leave him home now.........lol

Cheers Pete

haha thanks all :)

Binocs are a good idea! We have a set, so will take them :)
We're going to Streaky Bay - so I understand the fishing is pretty good there. We're going with friends who have a 5yr old, so 2 of them should keep eachother occupied :D

In my days we used to play 'I spy' and when we got bored with that, we used to sing "There were 100 green bottles, standing on the wall.........."

Seriously.....for kids nowdays, I'd suggest doing some internet research about the town's you're going to go through and give the kid a history lesson or two whilst you're driving.

Maybe you'll stop there yourself and help boost their local economy.

A shot of vodka usually keeps them quiet...lol (just kidding)

We usually put a video on when traveling and as long as the kids are active and doing stuff when camping they're all good. Mine are 6 and 4.5 so might be a bit easier to keep occupied.
Footy, cricket, bike...any sport is always good IMO

The vodka will be fine for me :D Let the hubby drive and i'll be all good haha.

My nephew will be 8 on Monday, and he's getting his own fishing rod, so i'm sure he'll love giving it a go.
He's very well behaved actually - so i'm sure we'll be easy enough for the journey. And between movies, games, sleep and his Nintendo DS, that should be good for the journey.

Then we are taking fishing stuff, plus beach stuff and his bike, scooter and footbal, frisbee etc :)

Cant wait!! :D
