View Full Version : DBA Rotors - Any good

Hi Guys,

Been reading up different rotors and was wondering what DBA's are like for quality? I have seen a couple of guys say they are ok but would like alternatives or added opinions

I need to replace my front rotors and being in TAS the price for slotted I have been quoted from my Mechanic is $240 each plus fitting. I know my Mechanic is not ripping me off as he is upfront about his mark ups and it is the wholesaler who is pricey.

Seeing as I am about to be unemployed cost definitely is something I need to look at .

Seen these on fleebay http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/DBA625S-DBA-T2-Front-Slotted-Rotors-x-2-to-suit-Nissan-Patrol-GU-Y61-306mm-/221165082860

I run a 99 GU 4.2 Turbo - will be giving it a 2" lift (parts been in shed for 6 months) Tyre's are Cooper ST Max - 275/75/16's on allow rims, though am looking at putting on 285/75/16's on steel rims later on.

Appreciate any ideas/feedback you have.

Thank you

I think mine are RDA dimple drilled and slotted with the black pads [HD]
They have been in for 10K with no problems to date.
price wise I think I was around $120 a wheel with pads,

Had no issues with the rda discs on the ba wagon, went slotted and drilled but that's because it's a road car.
Wife gives it hell and being an auto the brakes cop it, but no faults yet and the increased braking was amazing..

We went bendix pads still, so unsure of the rda pads

I have the RDA pads [black] and no scoring on the rotors to date, 6 months
Did squeal a bit when first fitted but that disappeared after the first trip.

Cheers Guys - will look them up when at home and place an order.

I currently run Bendix pads but will look into the RDA ones as well.

I brought the "black" pads as I tow a small camper,
but ask them what they would recommend for your style of driving.
You may not need the "green" or "black" pads,
in hindsight I would have chosen differently

I've used then in the past on a '05 TS Astra. No issues.

I’ve got them on the front of my truck together with EBC 6000 Greenstuff pads (http://ebcbrakes.com/product/greenstuff-brake-pads/). Compared to OEM rotors & pads ..... chalk & cheese. Pads are not cheap though.

I have the same setup as Cuppa, and am very happy with the improvement over stock. RDA dimpled and slotted rotors and the EBC 6000 Greenstuff pads.

I was told by the brake guys that the EBC Greenstuff pads are basically the same as the Black pads that TD went with too.

Thank you all for the info. Getting a set of the RDA's and will initially run Bendix pads as I have a new set in the shed.

Next step, off to read how to do the swap and most likely watch some youtube vids on it..

RDA's delivered this week from Performance Car Parts Online - good mob and easy to deal with $165 plus $25 freight.

Quoted cost from the Mechanic was over $200 per rotor - Went and had a chat with my mechanic to let him know the cost and he near fell of his perch. Needless to say he has asked for a copy of my receipt so he can go wave it under the nose of his supplier to give them a wake up. I know my mechanic does not mark up his stuff much and he has always looked after me, one of the good ones.

Again a big thanks to all for the assistance and knowledge.

Thanks for that Cuppa. I am thinking of upgrading to braided lines to remove some of the soft pedal we spoke about. Be great to get some feedback if it makes much difference.

Well got the rotors all fitted up. The car brakes real smooth with the new rotors, very happy indeed. Using Bendix pads with them.

While it was in the shop I had the mechanic throw on the 2" Lovell Springs lift kit I have had kicking around for a year or so as well as some 285/75/16 Coopers as the other ones had pretty much been worn to nil, plus I ended up slicing a sidewall on one but they have lasted their 70k so VERY happy with them. The lift looks more than 2" and from the initial drive I have had castor correction bushes added which has made a big difference. Also replaced 2 wheel studs as they sheered off in the wheel nuts on the near side front! That is 4 replaced now.

While I was at the shop noted these on the counter from a customer. Apparently this is the second lot like these in a week the mechanic has seen, though these are the worst. The guy who had them on the car only came in when the brakes became really soft. They became soft due to the piston blowing out and p#ssing all the fluid onto the wheel. Before that he said it was only making a slight sound!!
