Hi I'm Brendan,

Ive joined to hopefully get some useful information on my first 4wd purchase. Keeping in mind i know very little about 4wds so please dont tear me to sheds ive also never joined or posted on a forum before so this is also new to me. Im thinking i would like a GU trayback, but im open to the idea of any form of 4wd in around a 20,000 dollar budget. I would prefer a tray back but am open to suggestions of what would be a good 4wd for myself to enjoy :)

Can anyone offer me any info? if this is the wrong place to post something like this could you please point me in the direction of where i could gather some info :)

Thanks!!

Hi Brendan and welcome enjoy your stay, what can you get for $20k?
Not sure what 3lt CRD utes go for, if you want a 4.2 diesel you'll need more fun tickets
Check Gumtree and Flea bay but not sure if $20K will get you in a ute
Post your question up in another section as not all read the intros

There seem to be a few 4.2's around for under 20k but they have between 200-350 thousand km's on them. Would something like that be a bad buy?

Welcome mate, surely the best forum on the net. If you need it, you can get it, if you want to know it, just ask it. If you want to find it, go to the search bar for a universe of information. Enjoy the sights and sounds of the greatest show on earth.

wow chalk and cheese in some respect the 4.2 td will go forever but not the fastest 4x4 on the planet, takes well to modification
ask nissannewby or anyone with a 4.2td wagon or ute.
early ZD30 have a bad reputation but anything after 2003 seems to be ok if you do the NADS to them, which is basically a manual boost control
I have over 200k on mine and NADS's it at 185K other than an alternator I've had a trouble free run, touch wood, and return 12-13/100k
change the oil and filters every 5000k and keep an eye on things like cleaning the MAF on a regular basis and you'll be fine.
The petrol Patrols have power to burn and with that comes a high fuel bill but driven sensibly you'll get 18/100k,
if towing a larger radiator would be high up on my things to do, a few here have CRD utes but most are ex Telstra pods with the TD 4.2
