Next item on the mod list is a winch!!

So what are people running and what do they recommend?

I am seriously considering a Runva 11XP http://www.runvawinch.com.au/winches/4wd-electric/11xp/

They look the goods, have heard good things and are well priced.

I run with Runva EWX12000 with rope. I have only run it a couple of times and am impressed. It's not the fastest but I was pulling the Trol out of a mud pit for about 15 mins of almost non stop winching and it barely got warm. Others on this trip were also impressed at the job it did and not even hot to touch. 45392 Yes I know it has cable, but it is rope now. They sent me a cable winch instead. 45393 This is what I had to pull out of. 45394 It was very thick mud.

I I was looking for a winch for the front of my GUIV I'd fit that Runva in a heart beat. My number one choice in this price bracket. Or spend the large on a Warn XP9.5 but they are $2,400.

Don't have an actual pic on the car but this is what I have. Used it once to pull a decent log out of the way, thats about it. Haven't had the car hanging off it yet.

Something like this wouldn't be all bad. It's not the one I was looking for but its 4 motor high mount. The one I was looking for is basically 2 twin motored high mounts joined end to end with a custom 600mm drum it was a monster.

I have a 2nd hand warn XD9000 which easily cost less than $1k, it worked for a few years not even touching it, till I cooked the motor. My brother and dad installed it for me as I was away at the time and they didn't make sure the drains were at the bottom, and it had been through plenty of NT water crossing and mud holes before that. With clear evidence of water in the motor. I have since rebuilt it with a 6hp motor, with a new drain dremeled in the bottom position, fully painted inside with anti-fungal electric red paint stuff and a breather/airline tapped into it. Once I get my on board air sorted I'll hook up a low psi line to run through the motor when the winch is active.

Looking for a winch myself (now that I'll have a Patrol finally) and Runva seems to be pick of the bunch. Was considering the Tigerz11 Domin8r but reading/hearing too many bad things about Tigerz11 (not the winches though) just other products.

Have one on my GU. Not had to use it isn anger unless you call shifting 800kg bales of hay around in the shed.
Sort of slow and a bit of noise but function well. Only problem the 9000lb comes with a wire rope, but that can be changed.

I bought the Ridge Ryder 12000 lbs with rope when it was on 35% sale. Paid $585 for it. I've never used it and it's way out of guarantee now.
I'll probably use it this week with a snatch block to pull the top half of a scribbly gum down.

I pulled mine apart before I mounted it to check how well it was greased and found it pretty good. I put it back together with some good RTV silcone..

I also discarded all the original cabling (I think it was 2 gauge) and made my own from 0 gauge. I mounted the solenoid in the engine bay and the controller plug under the dash + a spare rocker switch control in case the controller broke.

This is the difference in cable size now:

I might do a separate thread on it next week..

Warren at Flamin Fabs makes the double motor high mount with extended spool.
there are another mob in Heidelberg that do it as well,
I think MR gets higher HP motors for his Warn winches,?

@jff45 how much Dyneema have you spooled on that winch?

@jff45 how much Dyneema have you spooled on that winch?

That's how it came out of the box so it hadn't been stretched and respooled yet. Can't remember what the advertised length was..

I won a 9000lb premier winch second hand off ebay for $230 bucks including delivery from the eastern states, it was missing the solenoid box an controller. I then bought a tigerz11 solenoid box with cable control and remote for $100 delivered. Hooked it up and works a treat ( let's face it, all the Chinese gear is probably pumped out of the same factory..)
So far it's got me out of a decent stuck position at the Powerlines, pulled a pig hunter out of diff deep mud at Dwellingup ( scored a bottle of Beam and a beer at the pub for that. ) and a guy stuck out at waroona dam for a six pack of caronas.
I didn't ask for payment but daly accepted it so I figure I'm into it for about $280 now and it's still going strong. Touches wood*

Just found this on BCF, haven't got a clue as to what they're like, no doubt the same as many of the other cheaper brands out there. Currently on special until 29/6/14

I have the Ironman 4x4, 12000lb with synthetic rope. Loved the fact they had the built in breather.

Looks awesome and pulls like a 12 year old with a sports illustrated.
