I was searching my garage yesterday for some parts for an air horn setup and found this.....

Tried to clean it up, this is the best I can do. Not sure where it came from or when it was made or by whom, but it had the words "A.I.F. Papua 1943" inscribed on it. I believe it's a letter opener..... :)

Looks as a big as a machete.

AIF is most likely for the Australian Imperial Forces, WWII.
A good find!.
(Edit: I'm sure it is a letter opener)

I have something similar , given to me by my great grandmother , trench art from one of the great wars . unfortunately I don't know from what war ?

Gaddy, the button may be a RAF WWII.

EDIT: should have mentioned that sometimes there may be a marking somewhere.
GviR or GvR. This would help to identify as WW1 or WW2.
