thermal transmitter and water temp sensor

hi guys and gals, i rebuilt my top end a few months back but noticed the water temp sensor is damaged and was never connected but my water temp gauge in the dash works and my thermal transmitter is connected.

i drive a 1995 GQ rd28. just a little confused how my gauge is working

The single wire sensor is for the gauge the dual wire sensor is for the glow plug timer circuit.

Which one isn't connected?

the dual wire is not connected. i bought the patrol like this, the sensor connection is damaged and cant connect to the plug. Does it matter that it is not connected?
