Well a few of you may have noticed im pretty new here so i thought i would share a couple of pics of my new 89 TB42 carby Ford Maverick. I only just picked the car up from a mate who bought it 3 weeks ago as in inbetween car while he fixed his landcruiser up( typical haha). Ive barely had a chance to check it out as i work in central qld for 3 weeks at a time so at the moment its just sitting at home. I bought it as a project car as it needs a bit of work to get it up to scratch hence all the posts asking questions haha. My daily driver is a 2011 Navara D22 with a fair bit of fruit but I wanted to get serious offroad and didnt want to smash up my 35k ute. From what i can tell this is where the Maverick sits:
3inch coil lift ( TJM i believe)
2 inch body lift
33x12.5 mickey thompson mtz's on 15x10 -44 steelies
approx 250 000ks on the engine and 400 000 on the body as it had a newer TB42 dropped in by the previous owner
9" HID ebay spotties
Aftermarket AUX tank as it used to have LPG but the system was removed
aftermarket extractors (nothing special)
Snorkel
front and rear quarter chops
rear tube bar
Thats about all i can think of but ive got a bit of an idea on where i want to go with it but trying to keep the cost down so ill be trying to do alot myself. Im not massively into petrols i prefer the TD42 but i figure the TB is just as strong. Its just going to be a challenge learning how petrols work and working on things like carbys ( im definately new when it comes to them). I love the fact that its so simple with barely any electronics, no airbags to worry about and the engine bay is huge so im looking forward to learning more about working on cars. The list of things im looking at fixing are:
New rims to bring the tyres under the guards
New exhaust from extractors back as the current one is pretty botched
Swivel hub seals and wheel bearings as mine are leaking pretty bad
Pertronix
Extended Rotor
Track down a stock fuel tank and sell off the aux one ( the fuel gauge doesnt currently work but i prefer to have the stock tank anyway)
Work on the leaking steering box and pump
Clutch will prob need to be replaced and master and slave cylinder seals done
Rear main seal will get changed then as its suspected to be leaking
Those are the main things i want to get done on my one week off so it will be a slow process but it will eventually come together. Ive also been told by the local fourby shop i should look at fixing up some of the lift components as well. Things like adjustable panhards, adjustable drag link, adjustable upper control arms and sway bar extensions. I know it sounds like alot of work and it will probably be expensive but im in for the long haul and im here to learn. Anyway thanks in advance for any help you guys have and any that you already have given i appreciate it.
cheers steve.
