View Full Version : Tallarook bog hole...

Bloodyaussie
23rd May 2014, 09:32 AM
Many of you have heard me tell of a mate who decided to have a brain fade and drive through a certain bog hole....

This hole has also claimed Drewboyaus and Rossco... I have not been swallowed up by this hole, mine is a bit further up the track.

This hole did a fair bit of damage to Jims car and Irish nearly broke his neck pulling him out.

6 weeks later Jim was on a hill stopped and he opened his rear door and water came pouring out..... Both Irish and myself asked didn't you dry your car out properly????

Just thought I would post up the pic as I was going through photo's looking for something.

I'm happy to announce that I'm going to try my hardest to avoid these stupid gritty dam water holes!!!!

The money I have spent on fixing my car is ridiculous and a lot of it comes down to gritty water holes like this one.

Radiator, alternator, a/c, interior, contamination in diffs, tranny, gbox, etc...

After the muppets from qld showed me slow crawling its so much more challenging and enjoyable!!!

However, it's bloody hard to not go through muddy ass climbs and holes down here when you see them on your travels in Victoria....lol...so much fun but just costs money!!!

Bwa ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Andy I gather you have the bill then ???

Yes....yes I have it...lol

Nah I really got looked after mate, the list was 2 pages long!

Can I borrow some cash?

Although I did some damage up red east track it could of been avoided with (A) slightly less gusto...it was dark, not checked the climb beforehand and had to wing it which caused more acceleration on those ledges because you slightly panic and do not want to get stuck and (B) standard Nissan components that do not cope with that kind of beating.

But....slowly get better components and happy days!!!

No...my rig is just a beast and just sounds like that normally.

Nah to be honest I was a lot slower then you but then I went a bit too slow on those ledges, felt it skip back a little bit which was steep, I didn't want to loose momentum nor stall.

Gave it berries to get up but that did the damage as I reckon I must of slid into those rocks on each side which as you mentioned the pressure hitting in the side would of bent the panhard.

Slave cylinder popping...who knows... They are just crap really.

Rear seal on output shaft drum...no idea... Prob original set up and seal and was just under the pump unfortunately.

To be honest I haven't done a lot of hard tracks in the dark.

Normally the day travels and camping at night.

It really is completely different.

Hard to judge paths and steepness, perceptual views etc...

Wouldn't mind doing more of it though.

I'd have to agree with you there AB. Those muppets are onto something. I enjoy a steep rocky climb over a flat deep rutted out bog hole anyday. While the truck looks like its had a hard day covered in mud. All I see when I approach a bog hole is a dollar sign floating on top.

Soooo........ you've been with me every time i've gone 4wding?? Lol not having a winch, no front protection, minimal off rd experience, what i believe to be a 2" lift that has sagged 2" and not wanting to get stuck so i don't put anyone out thats trying to recover me is a challenge in it self. The only thing going for my rig is a good set of muddies haha! Heres a challenge, lets get a couple of trucks that are as capable as a prius and lets see who gets further???? Lol that would be a great drive!!

Btw, Victorians live for roosting up hills sideways not putting around on pebbles or as you Queenslanders call them "rocks" :D

F@#kin oath I was excited, I get excited by 4wding in new places, and We do have muddy tracks.... I dont live in the desert, Qld has a wet season and a dry season....... my local tracks beside the creek bed which I am so far the only one to drive the rest of the tracks are red clay/black dirt and 95% of the locals are mud runners.

Having rode shot gun in Beneboys ute leaving permanent hand grip marks in his Jesus bar I'd say he will win this one. Anyway bog holes are bad I got swamped and impersonated a submarine the week before my wedding 2 years later 6grand with a new clutch gearbox starter motor altinator batteries transfer fush x3 front diff flush x3 new bearings bushes fan belt and rear diff x5 flushes I'm almost recovered from the flood. Just need to replace my whole stereo system now all because of a bog hole.

there is a similar bog hole at the bottom of Army track[Tallarook] with a good reputation for swallowing 4x4s.
On the same bog hole I've seen guys drive it in reverse just to say they can, but the majority will
come un stuck, you can drive around which most do.
@macca feel your pain Bog holes are never good especially if miles away and require a flat tow back to bitumen

I might have to bring my high compression 300 2 stroke for you to break your spine with BA

If you still have road tyres and rims we change it to a Motard set up.........

Sorry Benny I had a set of CBR 250 rims but gave them to Irish for his XR600... love motards.. I use to chase down R1's on the Yarra Boulevard on my chook chaser.

I also raced in a series could Supermono and the bike I raced was an ex Isle of Mann race bike.... lots of fun.
