Gday all
Just testing out the warn winch on our 2012 gu we brought last week. I could not flick the freespool lever over to freespool, the winch works fine in and out, just cant flick the switch. Has anyone had any issues like this or have any pointers.

Cheers Scotty

Had 3 warns so far mate. Every single one of them had a stiff clutch selector. Just need bit of extra force. Also try grab the cable and yank and jerk it slightly while disengaging he clutch at the same time it should click out .

Yeah they can be a pain. Wiggle the cable around while trying to do it.

It may have had to much grease put in when it was serviced also, not allowing the outer gear to slide over to engage the gears and if to much grease is there its very hard to get it to budge.
I learnt that the hard way.

Warn XD9000 or similar?

As posted by others... try "jerking" the cable at the same time as you twist the lever

But wanted to add the following...
Is the cable wire or synthetic?
If it is synthetic you need to use freespool as much as possible because the winch brake is in teh drum and if you "winch out" a lot the drum gets as hot as buggery and will melt the synthetic cable.
Even if it is cable it is good practice so if you cannot get the lever to move then pull the winch down and service it.

It is also a good habit to run a few metres in and out, say once a month so you spot any hassles before they get big time problems.

Warn's are really susceptible to water/mud ingress, esp if they are installed incorrectly with the wrong motor drain orientation.
Soooo... if you submerge the winch or give it a big workout in the mud then it is a good idea to service it pretty soon thereafter
