Hi can anyone help me just bought a GQ with RD28 TD and glow plug light goes on with ignition and then goes out for start up but then light starts flashing on and off until car is warmed up fully. Cold start is also difficult and when does start white smoke comes out the exhaust. Can anyone help me with some info and are the two issues related. Thanks Shane.

G'day mate, you might need a set of new plugs! Does it have a glow plug switch? I know that with the gu diesels, when ignition is on, leave it there untill the glow plug light turns off, then start it. But when its really cold, there should be a switch which is like a choke so to speak. Helps warm it up faster. As for the smoke, I wouldnt know if they are related, I do know that if its white with a blue tinge that it could be the turbo? Not sure if yours has a turbo or not.

I've got GQ 4.2TD and it starts no problem when home (in Cairns where overnight temps are around 17) but I was recently up on the tablelands and overnight was down to 8 degress and the old girl was reluctant to go first time - so I hit the ignition till the light went out, turned off and back on again for a second go with the glow plugs and it kicked over straight away. Have a new set of glows to fit but haven't been in the cold again yet.
