Im entertaining the idea of putting a rb30 into my lwb patrol mq 160 (1982) just curious if anyone has done this before? Couldnt find much on this forum using search so I figured id just ask!
Cheers

Im no expert but I'm sure I heard that rb30/l28 have the same gearbox pattern.
Unless you have the remote transfer case then you could use the vl commodore auto behind it anyway.
Couldn't be a bad thing after the l28
For that matter why not a skyline turbo engine...?

Ive got a 4 speed manual in my l28 so gearbox would be changed too. Honestly im happy to put any engine in aslong as it doesnt require expensive mods! Im a poor cunt and im aware engines are never plug and play im just tryna find the best proven swaps. Cheers for the input

I put a rb30 into my old mk.

I used a commordore clutch - there the same as the rb30 in the GQ but a $100 dollars cheaper.

Its a lot of work - made a differance.

You need to slot the top holes on the bell housing.

Due to the lean of the motor, I had to make new gear box and engine brackets to tilt the motor. As the inlet manifold was hitting the steering column.

I had enzo make me a hybrid high pressure steering line

I had a locl exhaust mob make me a pipe that connected the rb30 manifild with the l28 exhaust.

Wiring was simole (carby setup)

I was looking at efi the thruck - but it was stolen - and insurance paid it out

The costs where. - this is a guess

Motor - $450 Wreckers
Clucth kit $220
Power steering house mod at enzo $115
Bits and pcies 100
Friont and rear seals - (i done them as I had the motror out ) 50
Timming belt 100
exhaust 100

You will need a gq rb30 sump as the vl or skyline will hit

If you go this way. I recommend you replace the manifold studs as the orginal are weak and snap - and its usually the last couple that you canniot get to easly once the donk is in
