They still cant just waltz on in.

Unfortunately they can see my car from the street. I read that they are able to ask to inspect the vehicle anywhere at any time if its registered.

I was about to tell Phil it was the spot where mb had the bonnet up checking alternator but that doesn't narrow it down the slightest lol

So just went out into the light of day to have a look at this car. I resigned myself to giving it a cut today just to get the final blemished out.

Wow! Just Wow! I aint touching this! It will well and truly do. I was going to try ans cur it to get it to where it already is!! Game on. Very happy. Forgive me a couple of small blemishes.

Loaded up the 5 x 37inch treps into the trailer and took them to the tyre shop today. Strip all tyres. Clean all beads as a couple where a little rusty and not holding air. Balance. Bead tac.

So ol mate said yeah no dramas mate being them down. So i did.

Fark their big! Fark.....

You look worried John? If its not going to work its all good mate ill head down the road.
Nah no worries mate. Easy.
Kool.

Went back to collect them at 5pm.

Ghee they where big! We have taken them around the corner to the truck tyre place cause our balancer couldnt balance them!!
Oh
Yeah they fitted on the machine but the machine could not spin them fast enough to balance!!

I went back at 6pm and they where ready to go.

Cost me $40 a wheel.

Gluten for punishment. I thought bugger it. Now is the time. Hit the car with the random orbital with some 500grit paper and flattened off some of the peel.

Got the electric buffer out to give it some love ans the bloody thing was dead! Damn it. Headed into Repco and lucky for me they had the new model random orbital polisher at 50% off!! Yeah me.

Spent half of yesterday and best part of today cutting. Cutting. Cutting. Hard cut x 2. Medium cut then fine cut then swirl cut the polish.

Looks pretty good. Didnt get high gloss, more a satin finish as i would have needed to hit it with 2000 grit on the sander first and i couldnt be shagged. Should of but didnt.

Pretty stoked with the final result.

Started fitting the back door seals and ran out of light.

Well the last few weeks ive spent fitting barwork. What a mutha fuka that has been.

The sliders where a pig to get back on. Heavy and very short bolts that didnt want to start. I had the make some adjustments to holes with the die grinder to get them on. Lets just say there where some dark days spent laying on my back.....

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2018/05/197.jpg

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2018/05/198.jpg

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2018/05/199.jpg

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2018/05/200.jpg

So after finally getting the sliders i found the bolts used on my old bar where too short for the new rear bar bu 10mm! so had to buy more this week. They are a rate 14mm bolt. When i took on into the bolt bloke he looks at me and gave me a concerned look and walked away!!! Im thinking WTF?? That aint good!!! Rare and bloody dear!!! Nearly $10 EACH!!!

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2018/05/201.jpg

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2018/05/202.jpg

So when fitting the rear bar it became clear that things had moved while welding off. I had tacked everything on the car bolted in postion. When i finish welded the tails on the sliders for the rear scrubbies they both creeped forward damn it so needed some clamping to bolt up. They where misaligned by 10mm. Both sides.

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2018/05/203.jpg

Given how heavy things are and trouble with only having Naomi and Zach to help it was a slog. I was surprised then to find the bolts for the camburgs binding hard. Damn it 8 needed to run a tap down every thread which i didnt see coming at all.

Then this happened!!! MUTHA FUKA!!!!!

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2018/05/204.jpg

took some getting out and a mate dropped in at the right time and we for it out with some patience and motivation! Kinda smashed me though!!

I had a spare tap so ran it into every other one. I was surprised how much cut was needed ro clean the threads. It was almost luke cutting s new one in every hole. No wonder i broke a tap.

Advice to ALL - DONE BREAK A HARDENED TAP EVER!

Looks like that tap is dry - no lubricant. Bit of a lesson there. Regardless of chasing out a thread or tapping a new one, always use lub as the task is very high friction at best. Those coulpings must be pretty hard as well I am guessing? How close to the threads are your welds as maybe they closed up a fraction from that?

Anyway, mean set of rails darren, but don't ever call my barge heavy after seeing these!!!!

So this weekend i dealt with a problem i did t really see coming damn it.

When i went the new snorkel through the bonnet i needed to get rid of the passenger front guard. I scored a black one a coupme of years ago that was in the shed. The guy had already cut it for bigger tyres and it looked straight so on it went.

When i bolted up the front scrubbies i realized he had cut too much off the top of the arch and my new flares would not go on. Damn it!

10 years ago i scored a pair of Brand New guards that have been hanging from the roof of the shed ever since and now is the time!!

By accident, I found that if I let the tyre get right up into the guard at very slow speed through wombat holes it'll put a really nice compound curve at the bottom of the wheel arch. Looks Like it was professionally rolled. It didnt even crack the paint. Lol

Perfect for my application. Can Not be Buffed. :-( Once the gloss is gone its gone forever no matter what i do. Best bet is to give ti another Coat. No Faarrrrking Way and i doing that! Paint looks AWESOME!!!

Pulled out the centre console and entered the world of 12v wiring again. There is a lot to do there. Remove and replaced a number of switches for new tasks and fitted 4 2.1amp usb charging ports.

I am going to drill through the roof and fit gland for the roof lights And the gland i had was too small so will grab a couple during the week and drill that next weekend.

Spent some time figuring out what was happening with the wiring at the back of the car and OMG its all coming out. Start again with a new supply from the front to a Narva fuse box at the back. Next weekend for that.

So i have neglected this build thread but been giving it a bit of time over the last month.

I desperately needed to sort out the back 9f the car. There was some very sh1t wir8ng into the back i couldnt leave. When working through it simply could not fix it so ripped the lot out ans started again. Scarey bad, some of it done by a much younger me.

Im really happy with how its come up. Safe. Organised. Fresh. Correct.

Fuse box on the right and some USB points on the left.

I wanted to be able to store stuff in the spare tyre so wanted access to it. So hinged lids to the middle and the outside.

Yeah i put a big dab of silicon under it and up through the holes. If you zoom in you can see also that the top of the Anderson Plug is covered in silicon over the top of the tek screws too. They are fully encased. They will be fine. No doubt at all.

Might have started a couple of grass fires....

First up the winch Dildo for the 24v setup. These really do make a huge difference when spooling in a 24v highmount. They fly and these take the slack safely.

Mud flaps. Need mudflaps but want 5hem removable. So a fair bit of thought and they will be a 1 bolt removal and a second tube will go in to act as a brace when there is no mudflaps in the bush. Going to be awesone.

I had to cut this off and finish it off.

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2019/02/24.jpg

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2019/02/25.jpg

I made the end plates and welded captured nuts in place

Fitted the XR seat to the drivers side using Hurricane adapters. Unfortunately i found the seat mounts had some stress fractures and also the previous guy had ground down the front pins so i had to drill them out of both seats ans replace with bolts. They were hardened and took some bloody drilling.

Drivers seat in. Passenher seat ready to bolt in but i have more work to the centre console first.

Looks good mate. Like the idea of the ford seats. Do they fit alright in a GU?

The Hurricane adapters make them a straight bolt in. These are in my GQ but i understand they are the same

So i had to strip the drivers door to retrieve the rear mount for the door mirror. Once in i couldnt find what i expected to be fairly small. I spent a couple ofhours cleaning and organising my GQ bits and pieces trying to find it along with eveything else i need to finish.

After getting my arm in the door and taking pics looking for it i finally lo cfc ated this thing jammed in the side impact bar. I had felt it a few times and though it was part of the door assembly. Bloody thing is huge!!

I spent some time on it this weekend. So close gents.

So i tested the roof lights and they did not work. I noted also the rear light not working and the air free spool not working. Damn it. Traced the trigger back off the high beams and was all good.

Out with the passenger seat and flipped the console again damn it.

Traced the circuit for the roof light and had 12v at the B pillar. Had 12v outside the roof! Damn! Dead light bar??? Surely not.!!!! No. The dickhead that fitted the Anderson plug reversed the polarity..... easy fix but had to wreck the silicon.

Fixed.

Took the inner guard and inside door trim off the back door and while jiggling the wire on the relay the bloody light came on. Cut and replaced a couple of connectors and good to go.

Tested the and air freespool and everything works

The rear airlocker didnt work last trip out so had a look at it. Had air at the diff so removed the fitting from the housing and its blocked. I will bit a new fitting kit and might avoid stripping the rear diff which is a bloody winner.

Nearly there gents.

Many little jobs finished. Fitted the grille. Parker lights. Filled the winch with oil.

Trying to adjust the bonnet and snapped a bolt damn it so the bonney had to cone off!

Took the opportunity to run the washers back in and fit some LED Lighting.

Thanks for that. I am looking to upgrade my old ARB diff lock compressor - had it since 1997, so its served its time, still pumps OK. If I cant sort out the endless air unit when I tear the front of the engine down I think I will go a big one - will have to look at the ARB twin also.

I bought a couple of 11mm units a while ago, not small either. I will say however that I am still sitting on the fence regards using them instead of a metal shackle for winch pulls - impact or energy situations like snatch stuff, yes, won't hesitate, but need some more assurance I think - the 'knot' bit is what has me cautious.

So i watched a heap of youtube threads on these before i began. This design is a stronger design than normal. It is rated at 220% strength of the 12mm rope. Well strong enough.

Your nut looks larger than mine, but thats hardly surprising is it!!!!! I don't doubt the mechanical strength, its just my engineering mind getting stuck with shackles as we use them every day and no soft shackles are rated for lifts - again, just a mind block. Right bit of gear for the job in some circumstances I guess.

Yeah this design is an improved design with the ends buried into the Nut making it significantly bigger but it it impossible to now invert the Nut which is a weakness. No tails

Wankers.

So Mark the winch dildo is a polyurethane winch dildo. Designed to hook a 24v himount hook too when spooling in. The 24v himount spools fast and can be a little dangerous when spooling in so hook on and get hands out of the way. it flexes and takes the load of the winch when spooling in.

Ok Brain is fried. One of the last things for me to do is refit the rear tail light assemblies. As you will note in the pics through this thread i have neglected them terribly and left them hanging exposed for the better part of 4 years. Idiot.

One was smashed so i bought a pair of new lights. They come plug and plat but not a plug that exists on my car so had to splice.

Problem is the previous splice was hideous ans at end of life and a mess. Add to that sun faded colours. And im colour blind....

6 hours yesterday and another 8 hours today making completely new looms for both sides. Back to basics. Typical bloody Nissan though there is bulk loom in there that is not being used and a couple of extra wires cost me hours of trolling through the factory manual electrical section looking at bloody wiring diagrams looking for a colour that didnt even exist. You Shit me Nissan.

Whats good about the quality of your build is that it does not look like some redneck piece of crap and whilst it is definitely 'bigger' in many dimensions, its pretty much in proportion. It certainly would get a second glance from Mr Plod, however 'maybe' sneak thru except at a road stop. I mean, there is nothing 'unsafe' about it as it stands, just out of original spec.

So after noticing the GQ sitting on an angle in the back yard I noticed yet another flat tyre. That counts 4 flat tyres for a single day trip!!! That's Nuts!!!

So bit the bullet and bought 17x8 neg13 steel bead locks yesterday.

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2019/06/81.jpg

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2019/06/82.jpg

I got them from Huntsman Products via eBay. I have been watching them for ages bit bit the bullet. Was a little worried about quality but actually really impressed with these. Heavy. Thick. Good kit.

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2019/06/83.jpg

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2019/06/84.jpg

I got a quote at $100 a wheel to fit and 3 days to fit!!! Nah bugger that. I got this.

Balancing beads will save me having to pay to get them spun up.

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2019/06/85.jpg

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2019/06/86.jpg

Time to strip the Traps off the steel rims. Holy shit!! What a task!

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2019/06/87.jpg

This tool made it a little easier

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2019/06/88.jpg

Once the bead was broken the tyre pliers got a work out!!

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2019/06/89.jpg

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2019/06/90.jpg

Then throw in the beadlock and line it up.

For those playing along at home. The rattle gun helped ALOT!!!! Rattle up in a star show over and over agind to pull it down before the torque wrench does the final stage.

37 Treps on 17" Beadlocks.

The wide mouth failed suits the extended Drum on the +76 Deltatek freespool. Also it 8s big enough to let a Knot in the rope pass through which is a real bonus. I run 12mm rope though and hope never to need to knot it....

The 4wd shed had a batch custom made. Gigglepin make a wider one to suit the free Spool but not open like that.

A couple of months ago I stumbled on this Beast of a Compressor on Facebook. It was listed badly and I did a 3 second Google search and pounced on it. I Drove across town as quickly as I could to get my hands on this BEAST!!!

Welcome the new Warn VTC Double Compressor no longer sold in Australia. This was a $700 compressor 15 years ago.

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2020/06/130.jpg

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2020/06/131.jpg

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2020/06/132.jpg

What a BEAST!!

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2020/06/133.jpg

8CFM at 90psi !!!!

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2020/06/134.jpg

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2020/06/135.jpg

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2020/06/136.jpg

So today I pulled it down, i removed the exo-cage and chassis and have had to heavily mod the chassis to fit into the space. It won't fit next to the 37 in the back so I have to mount it on an angle and cut through the cargo barrier. This this is pretty big.

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2020/06/137.jpg

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2020/06/138.jpg

It had its own relay and 200amp online fuse!!!http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2020/06/139.jpg

The tank on top is an Air tank and will retain the 2 ranks I already have.

I stripped out the carpet out of the back too as it was a pain to get the 37 in on top of the carpet.

We got pretty Lose on Saturday. Zero F@cks Given and pointed the GQ at everything that looked interesting.

Zach was a little apprehensive about going alone but he really underestimated the GQ. We got pretty Crazy. By the end of the weekend he had ALOT of Love for the GQ. Seriously it is a Beast.

We hit the Champion Spur Link track in both direction in the rain. Crossed the Goulburn on Champion and headed up Black Ridge.

I gave Zach a heap of technical info on winching and setting up recoveries and soon enough he got a chance to try out his learning.

Jump out the window mate. Winching we are!!!

We did our Service. Cleared a Massive double trunk downed tree. I didn't get a before pic but seriously considered turning around. My saw was no where near big enough but we gave it a red hot crack. 1.5 tanks of fuel later and some winching and the track was open again.

This really is the first really decent trip I have done in this car in 5 years.

Feedback....

24v High mount........ OMFG!!!! There is simply no comparison to a 12v High mount. This thing is a weapon. So much faster. So stoked with this upgrade.

37" Beadlocked Treps!!!.... Holy Batshit Crazy. Beast Mode Tyres!!! Epic. #Justsendit game changer people. Epic

Warn VTC Compressor.... Bloody Hell!!! I dropped in at Winnies on the way home to air up. The Treps were at 23psi. Using a stop watch to air up, it took 90 Seconds per tyre to go from 23psi to 43psi... stoked. That is a BIG Tyre.

Worth the hard work. Worth the time and effort. Can't wait to head out again now.

Stoked!!!!

Bloody awesome Daz absolute beast, so spewn couldn't head out, stupid covid damit. . Seriously are lucky to have awesome areas in our backyard. Those signs on Selma to discourage people ripping up the sides of road and little firebreak tracks that head along the spur a bit trashed that spot lol. . . Good to see it being used, fun working on the things but even better using it for what it's for lol. .

Yeah it was really odd placement. They were on the side of the road. It read like I could not proceed bit I did. Figured it was about the side of the road which was getting smashed.

That sign was like one my son and I came across years ago when going over the Dargo High Plains road towards Harriettville.

Sign was a fixed in the ground, so there 365 days a year. Told us we couldn't go any further as the road was seasonally closed. But the sign was right next to a gate which was wide open. So I'm thinking, the sign is pretty clear, but the gate is wide open so maybe the sign doesn't apply YET?

We went through, probably shouldn't have, it was bloody snowy.

Looked like a great trip Daz, heaps of fun.

So thenGQ 8s up on the hoist and notice some oil on the shed floor a few weeks ago. My front drivers shock was leaking. I must have blown a seal in the high country.

So pulled it off and stripped it a couple of weeks ago and using YouTube found the superior engineering vids to be pretty good. Made a couome of calls ro telgwm to confirm what is what but comfortable with the rebuild.

So it turns out the leak was from the swivel which had just come loose and i did not need to strip but here we are.

The leak was there

Did you take the shims off the piston? It'll be good to know the diameter, thickness and layout of the stack for a good baseline incase you want them tuned up a bit.

G'day mate! Hope you are well. How is your ute looking? Any closer to turning a key again?

To be honest i did not notice any shims. Interesting, the other week I called Superior about Bleed method because the youtube vid actually misses a little bit. During that discussion which sent me back to the shed to strip down the other half damn it, but I asked what oil weight. The bloke didn't know so went and asked. Came back and advised me to use 10W fork oil. I bought 2 lots on special. On Friday I called again to run through the Bleed specifically as I had emptied the remote res and line completely and their vid misses how much room you should leave in the remote res. Got the info and as I hung up I asked again, just confirming 10W oil mate. NO! 5W oil bud. I asked what the difference would be as i had $60 worth of 10W. He said the 10W would just make it a firmer Shock. I was able to exchange the 10W for 5W happy days.

So long story short, heavier weight oil could be used to tune it a little too.

Im doing ok. The ute is closer to the scrap heap than it is to anything else. I'm still dirty about that fuckin engine and the people who wiped their hands with it. But anyway enough about that POS.

The shims are the little disks that partially cover the holes and wells in the piston. Ftom the bottom you'll have the lock nut, washer, rebound stack, piston, compression stack and washer. If you get them tuned, its these shims that will change the damping characteristics.

bugger. Mate I remember that day!!! I was gob smacked mate. So pissed for you. A real shame, you were building something pretty slik.

I reckon you should put it back together mate and use it. Even LS it and have some fun.

Re the shims. Yeah I did have a good look at that cause it was the first time I have been inside one. Is pretty cool. But alas I did not take measurement there and she is back together now.

The Amadas i have are Gen1 and are no longer supported by Superior. They run a Gen2 and their own brand so if I need parts I am on my own. Interesting that the part that leaked on me is part of the change they made to Gen2.

See how we go

Yeah I gave it some thought about who would have that tech too. There is guy in Geelong that sets up dirt bike suspension and gave him a call. Just been in to see him and it took him about 5 minutes to recharge and wouldn't take a payment. Nice guy. Chad's Dirtbike set-ups.

I normally get shocks charged at the local hydraulics shop. They have all gear, the gas and it's basically the same as charging an accumulator, which would almost be a daily occurrence for them.

The reason I believe that Cremulator Mate has mistaken it for glass is that Perspex is a brand name of Acrylic which is the Bees Knees for clarity especially with the bestest of the best fish tanks etc...
Polycarbonate we’re forced to use for playground stuff due to its indestructible little turds nature and greater fire resistance/melting drip timelines.
Acrylic for the win clear viewing just don’t lean on a tree branch or drill without clamping with a blunt burning drillbit as sharp ones corkscrew in way too fast and spider crack [emoji51]
