Yeah I'm pretty excited about it mate!!!! Fitting some New 12mm rope. Maybe 50m of it! Shouldn't break it next time.

Running 24v through it will see it pull like a 14 year old mate!!!

You would get good coin for your airbox if you ever sold it mate. Pretty big bucks for the Through bonnet snorkel and airbox combo but sweet bit of kit!!

I'm keen for a fatz fab panel filter box, but I'm yet to see one in person to see if I could fit it next to my dual battery.

I still need a decent airbox as mine sucks.. a lot of people are starting to put there second in the back to open up more room under the bonnet.

Yeah the panel filters aw great and a dime s dozen to buy which is awesome. I really like the look of the through bonnet setup but might make my own airbox. I scored a couple of washable 10" long pod filters with a 4" outlet the other week bloody cheap that will go straight in that box.

Are you moving the rear diff back a touch??

No.. I would have to buy longer lower arms to do that. in fact i am going to make a slight adjustment to my uppers that will move it forward slightly as i noted there was a rub mark on the Amadas from the spring at full flex.

Ben-e-boy

Yes mate stock length lowers. I was surprised but had a look and my pinion Angie is pretty straight, I mustnt have made an adjustment when the new lift went in, I will shorten the uppers a degree and will then clear the springs.

Ben-e-boy
26th May 2015, 07:02 PM
have you put an angle gauge on the pinion and tc output? It seems odd to me that you are making pinion adjustments for clearence issues,

Nah it should be fine and makes sense to me. If I shorten the uppers slightly it will roll the diff forward and straighten the spring that have a very slight bend to the rear. It will drop the pinion and put a little angle into the pinion which looks pretty straight now. Should be fine mate.

I know ben-e has said it before but long arms would be a good idea now you have moved to 37's. You have now increased the lever acting on your trailing arms when flexed. This will aid it in trying to drive under itself when climbing and flexing. Not to mention they will help keep those tyres planted much better.

It has had a 2" body lift in it nearly forever. Problem I have is all my bar work is made to suit a 2" body lift and my coil tower brace kit requires some BL. I got a set of 1" BL blocks off Kallen a while ago and will fit that at some point but need to remove and modify my sliders and probably make a whole new rear bar to incorporate front and rear brush bars.

So what made you start thinking about downgrading? I assume it has nothing 2 do with legalities.

2" gives you plenty of room 2 wash the mud out between everything *LMAO*

So what made you start thinking about downgrading? I assume it has nothing 2 do with legalities.

2" gives you plenty of room 2 wash the mud out between everything *LMAO*

I was already thinking about dropping it down a bit when I did the new Superior Lift and ummmmmed and ahhhhed about it then. Perfect time then! But chose to stick with the 5" lift and gave them all my measurements including weigh bridge weights and hub to guard measurements for all four corners.

I ordered the Lift through 4WDTV at a great deal which I appreciate greatly. Once the lift arrived ready to fit I trashed the car and couldn't present it for the lift fit at 4Wd Obsession as part of a filming for 4wdTV. I then also decided to go with the GU diffs and needed to swap them out before the lift could be done.

The lift sat at 4WD Obsession for nearly 12 months waiting to be fitted. When it finally went in I gained another 2 bloody inches! Making what was already questionable now Very Bloody Big!!! Time killed me, if I'd been on t early I might have had a come back but it was over a year.

So options are to swap out the springs only if I can make the longer Amadas work with shorter springs and maybe take some of the BL out too.

Plenty of guys around now running 37s with a 2" lift and big guard chop. Most of the comp guys went from 2" lift to 5" lift and back to 2" lift and big guard chop for the win.

Guard cover comes off. I didn't really think about taking this off when I did the respray so the paint won't be finished nicely. Oh well.

Damn the flares have been installed for keeps. 10mm bolt and nut every 50mm!!! Damn it!!! They don't want to come undone.

Guard cover off finally

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2015/05/404.jpg

Marked up the new line.

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2015/05/405.jpg

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2015/05/406.jpg

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2015/05/407.jpg

So I marked a second Line a good 25mm in which will be the new tab and fold.

I cut along the inner line and then folded to the finish line. A few years ago I bought 2 pair of these wide nose vice grips. They are the bomb.

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2015/05/408.jpg

With the clamp set at firm but not full grip the fold and you can use the vice grip to flatten it out. Just increase the vice in stages and keep resetting, works great.

Ok so your going to the trouble and this thing won't be road legal.
So why not extend your read shock mounts higher to allow the longer shock and shorter springs.
Then you'll need to keep the body lift.

At this stage if I get pinned I can remove the lift and refit the 2"lift that Mego dropped back yesterday, get the car cleared over the pits and be in business pretty quickly. If I start cutting shock towers off or re welding for Long Arms it will be much more difficult to get out of trouble.

MudRunnerTD
15th June 2015, 11:41 PM
The tread blocks actually makes it pretty easy to handle. Bloody heavy by fairly easy to manage. I fitted the tie downs out far enough that I can drag the wheel out and not jag on the tie downs.

I will install a shelf across just above the tyre so I can pack on top. I will remove the compressor from the box on the wheel arch and mount it on the floor in front of the tyre too..

Most of the guys I roll with have their spare inside the car like that. I will manage. Need the shelf to handle the 45lt Fridge would be ace and somewhere to mount the travel buddy with acres through the side window again is the plan.

No harder that putting it just of the floor in the back. Atleast with a slide you can get it on the tray slide, clean it up while its hanging out of the back of the car, then slide the drawer back in. You could even make a double drawer setup, with the top draw for the tyre and another drawer under it that can also come out and act as a table with the top draw still packed away... Lol
If weight is an issue for the tyre on the drawer, some extendable fold out legs would help. Like those twist lock legs that are on the awnings.

Today was body lift reduction day.

Kallen made a set of 20mm body blocks about 12months ago for me and I have finally got around to fitting them. I had to buy a new set of bolts as mine were all to long.

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2015/08/223.jpg

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2015/08/224.jpg

I have lifted my front shock towers to accommodate longer front shocks do I drilled a 50mm hole in the top of the inner guard so I can still get to the top of the shock if I need to remove one any time.

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2015/08/225.jpg

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2015/08/226.jpg

So jacked up the body on both sides. Some of the bolts were a bastard to remove but got them all finally.

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2015/08/227.jpg

All done. 30mm drop. Need to tighten all the bolts now, will get to them tomorrow Arvo.

Damn!! I can't shut the bonnet!!! Need to make an adjustment to my intercooler setup. Bugger it.

Raise rear bonnet to avoid modding the mounts?

MudRunnerTD
22nd August 2015, 09:22 PM
Yeah it hits by a bit damn it. I have a bit of room to move the back of the heat exchanger down which I will have to do. The radiator section connected to the bonnet needs to be replaced as its holed anyway. The fans have been removed and can't be refitted. The back angle team hits first so might be able to take some of the rib out. Fun a be close though.

My car is too big and removing some of the body lift gives me back 30mm straight away. The 20mm blocks almost look factory too so I might not get pinned for a body lift which is now illegal in Vic I am told.it was legal when I fitted it.

Yeah that is the primary reasons for not completely removing the body lift. I kept 20mm blocks to ensure that it would clear. Glad I did cause finding another 20mm under the bonnet would be impossible. I think I have enough in my IC to adjust to close the bonnet but another 20mm would smash me

Yeah I reckon I could. I used a hole saw so it's a nice neat hole. Not sure how much would enter there versus the rest of the engine bay though? Will check it out though cheers.

My old body mounts allowed the body to hit the frame and steering box on hard hits, and that's with standard shock towers, I was going to cut out the entire hump to install extended shock mounts

Hey Mudrunner just had a quick question about when you moved the primer pump back over to the drivers side (roughly page 110 I think) . Did you take the wring for the water in fuel plug with it or not worry about it? If so, how did you do that. Just about to do the same on mine and after any tips. Cheers.

Hi mate, sorry I completely missed your post. Sorry for not following you up.

I have run an after market fuel filter for 10 years with a water separator so the wiring is obsolete on mine. Would not be difficult though I would think. Knowing Nissan it probably leaves the loom on the drivers side and goes across the fire wall anyway.

Hope you got it sorted mate/ feel free to ask away.

Nah not really, I bought them with a few mates me we did a group buy and got a great price.

I called ARB for a price for the bullbar brackets they use on their older style brushbars. They cost $46.30 for a set including bolt and I might go that way for the GUIV brush bars. The camburgs are perfect for removing damaged aections of bar work. Even just to repaint the bar work will be a winner. These will nearly be invisible. I'll use a camburg to joint the rear scrubs to the rear bar and sliders and the front arch a to the front bar. I think the camburg a cake in around $30 each.

If you build them properly and still damage them enough to rebuild or replace sections, there will be more pressing issues that need attention before the barwork.

Yeah thats heavy wall 32nb. Keeps they weight down a bit and still lets you get to the fuel filler. Obviously not a huge difference in size but it is tight around the filler. You'll have ro remove the filler cap

Cheers mate, just had a look. That is identical to what I have bent up for My GQ and ABs GQ. I used 40nb 3.2mm wall (48.3mm) which looks a little heavier than that bar work. But basically identical. we should also weld that extra support on the rear scrub down to the rear bar as well.

Yes that's my intention, it doesn't really need a bend in it though, just notching.

Well! Flat Out what a Farrrkkked Job this is!!!!! Damn it to Hell!!

So my rock sliders where made for a 2" body lift. I have removed most of the body lift so these need adjusting. Can't be hard? Right?

Cut the mounting plates off. Change the angle, line it up. Tak. Remove. Finish weld.

Yeah right! What a bastard! The front one is longer so making a slight change to length and I can't centre on all plates.

Finally lined it up after stuffing around for several hours last night. Very difficult to do this alone. Battle on.

Tacked up and removed the supports. Undoing the mounts again. And while undoing the last one it came crashing down on me breaking all tacks, landing on me and loosing the setup completely! Damn you I said quietly.....

Just finished the first one!! Used the gas less wire I had in the welder, spits crap everywhere! I will Not be using it on any of the other bar work, I will buy a bottle.

Lol. Ahhhhhh No! The welds look ok although I haven't cleaned them up but the splatter is nuts with this wire.

Is it a secret Darren? :) lol...
How do you intend on connecting the brush bars to the bull bar? Or is what those thingamejigs are for?

Any Cyclone fence place should have the correct TEE fitting
to get from the bullbar to the side rail,
Fair gap on the side steps dont show welds ,
but could the steps of gone in further if the angle was made better
to weld??

yeah they are a little different. Much Cheaper but they only have 1 hole through them . I could drill a hole through the T on them but the ARB are longer on the main bar with 2 holes and then a 3rd hole through the T. a Much stronger and snugger design.

Lol, yeah I got them much closer than that before tacking them. Was a bastard though. Had to trim the middle one a little the the front longer one was a bastard to line up.

Just doing the second one now.

Spray the area with cooking oil ,that should stop the splatter

Or just get a can of anti splatter spray. Works a treat with mig and arc.

Both sides are bolted up with minimal bolts ready to start the scrubs. Next weekend maybe.

Mig will still have a heap of spatter. Not quite as bad as flux core but plenty. If you want spatter free you will need to tig it

How much did you take out of the body lift??

If your getting lots of spatter you need to spend a little more time on the setup. You wont get it spatter free but you can certainly have very minimal spatter when the welder is setup accordingly.

yeah my welder is a very basic model with 2 switches ( 1 - 2, hi - lo) and line speed. It is also only 140amps and i was welding 4mm plate so basically had it on High and line speed 8/10. I think if i slow the line speed down and slow the welding down, its already slow it may well reduce the splatter. I am satisfied that i got good penetration though which is the main thing at this stage

Today was body lift reduction day.

Kallen made a set of 20mm body blocks about 12months ago for me and I have finally got around to fitting them. I had to buy a new set of bolts as mine were all to long.

I remember now.. was just wondering if you could close the gap a bit by lowering the pipe down the plate a bit and then place a gusset above it to add more strength..

Also remember you want to pull a Flux core mig.. same as the stick..
When there is slag, you'd wanna drag..
Normal gas mig you push..

But also gas less you'll need to run hot.. if your worried about it dropping threw back off the heat and wire..
With that sorta gap full peno will not be an issue lol..
