Hi everyone,
I´m starting to think about fitting a twin wheel carrier on my Patrol. However the first options I´m looking at are pretty expensive (Kaymar, Outback Accessories, ARB).
Someone here could endorse any brand with good value for money or any private manufacturer??
Cheers and thanks in advance,

You could also try Uneek 4x4.
They look alright and priced well.
Shared post from 'NissanPatrol.com.au' by Uneek 4x4 from thread 'GU rear bumper and tyre carrier':
We have a working prototype for our GU rear bumper and tyre carrier-
Works with series 1-3
We will be doing Series 4 on soon.

Personally I like the new uneek4x4 ones and will probably look into them more closely when the time comes for my rear bar, if not them I would definitely be going Raslarr.

The Rassler feature one touch opening for the door and swing away which is cool,
Massive reverse LED lights. that would be my choice

Can I ask why you are thinking of a twin wheel carrier?? the reason I ask is that I have a kaymar unit on the rear of my GQ Patrol. I also have a single wheel carrier attached some time.
The issue is that they are heavy and add a lot of weight to the car. I am now thinking going away from the kaymar and going back to a tube or factory bar.

I have a sports range one $1200 so I was happy with that and it's been on for 18 mths and no problems yet.

I've had Kaymar. They are well built. The ARB ones are rubbish. Expensive, bearings are too small, they shake themselves to bits. Mate has had arms replaced twice by ARB under warranty. On the flip side I have seen a couple of cheapies just break off on corrugated roads so make sure ties well made and you should be fine.

Hi Jtraf,
Well, I would like to carry with me a couple of spares and I don´t want to use the roof rack to allocate one of them. So I thought that twin carrier could be the best solution. I have already installed heavy duty coils to allow the extra weight in the rear side.

Thanks Stropp,
They are pretty close from where I live.
I will drop down there tomorrow to get some information.
Cheers.

How much do these rear bars weigh anyway? I've got my eye on the Raslarr unit but want to do my weight figures before I go too much further.

My kaymar bar was 70kg . That's minus each wheel arm which were 20 to 25 kg each easy. Very very strong unit. When I took it off for sale you could tell they sparred no expense with steel and good welds.

Easy 100kg more than standard, plus the second wheel if that's your plan?

Do you really need one? Lots of extra weight, lots of dollars - for something you may never need. Also it's just another thing to rattle and break. I have never needed a second spare and neither has anyone I have travelled with. We always carry plugs and when we go really remote we carry tubes, a spare case and tyre changing gear. Also, if you tow a trailer, make sure the rims/tyres are interchangeable. Just my two bobs worth.

What he said ^^^^
Every extra kilo that is added that far back on a vehicle is worth maybe 5 kilo's of payload as far as the rear spring towers are concerned.
Cracks in the the rear spring towers are one of the few weaknesses in the Patrol Chassis which is why people reinforce them.
If you are towing as well then the tow ball down force is also to be considered
I like the idea of getting the weight off the large door but if you are doing medium to heavily loaded travel in remote areas or rough tracks then I feel the added weight is more likely to eventually cause issues than the "convenience" of having two fully mounted spares hanging off the rear.
Just my opinion from my experiences

Good points. I want to take the weight off the barn door hinge for the single spare, plus be able to use the Hi-Lift Jack on the rear bar. I wouldn't opt for the second wheel carrier personally, but maybe a jerry holder. The weight of it all is a bit of an issue though.

It's worth doing for two reasons. Big wheels on the door is trouble, and plastic bumpers cop a hammering. On corrugated roads they literally shake the tail lights out, so my opinion is do it and accept the weight. There are lots of stories around of people losing spare wheels because they simply cracked and fell off the back door.

there's a few private/up coming fabricators in qld that will do it for you, patrol customs 4x4, kc works, buds customs radius fabrication there all on face book mate hit them up there's also proform fab down south..hope i helped a little bit in price category. :)

I would recommend ARB, but not new (unless you want to spend the $$$)
I have an ARB one, corrugations, heavy offroad, no issues, bearings are no smaller than outback accessories or kaymar (have compared)
Picked mine up 2nd hand from a write off, so not that expensive.
Have seen 2nd hand units come up cheap, so if you aren't fussy on a new one, keep an eye out.

Pretty sure Mr had a kaymar and I'm impressed. They incorporate the draw bar into it and it bolts to the chassis via the hoop bolts.. So you can remove the factory tow bar and gain more departure angle..
I love it..

I am now more concerned about the extra weight I am carrying and the added weight of my very well built kaymar is huge. I weighed my car six months ago and the weigh with me the misses and youngest of three kids with a full tank of fuel and empty rear draws was pushing 2900kg. Add the roof rack, engel and all the stuff we need for a few weeks offroad and we would be well over the cars GVM. Adding unneeded weight is the question and concern.
